We are in the process of having FTTP installed to our remote village via Superfast North Yorkshire and had the contractors clearing the ducting and running the cable recently.
This has appeared very near to my house with info on that I haven't a clue other than the "FTTP" labelled on it. What does it mean in plain English.
Thank you.

Its a piece of cable holding 36 fibres, so just needs connecting to manifolds or splitter appropriately and of course all the other lengths that link back to an existing bit of FTTP network

Hi Tim
I'm sure you (like me) was hoping to learn more about what the label was saying rather than the very very obverse. These replies could have been worse (just a little maybe) if they had said its a telephone pole with a cable rolled up on it.
I've learnt to stop asking questions like this.

Sorry my answer did not meet your expectation...so lets add a bit more
Route 1141 Ident: FTTP is obvious and the V5030 refers to a structure number which are used so Openreach know things are in their network
Cable NO and CSS ID: Asset numbers simply
Cable Section: Confirms the start and end point, but with no access to the full Openreach planning system no way of deciphering the locations
Fibre Count: 36 fibres
Job No: The number the work was carried out under, allows them to track other things such as traffic management costs if needed i.e. would be under the job number too.
Contractor: Who did the work
Not sure really adds much.

Not sure really adds much. Maybe not for you Andrew, but for those of us out here every piece of information we can get about FTTP actually being installed in our area is important.
Maybe if you didn't try to be across ever active thread and left others in the know to respond to threads more information may flow between people which is what forums are about.

Well put Mr.S, I didnt post my earlier attempt at a reply, it wasnt as succinct as yours.
|
|
|
|
I think the point Mr S was making is that there is very little information on the label that is likely to be of practical use, its mainly administrative - and as pointed out by Mr S - without access to the BT internal systems in respect of that exact label, there isnt really anything specific to be learned in respect of time lines etc.
This is an amazing resource and has been for many years. Mr S is "all over" the threads as he has a huge amount on knowledge in this area. Sometimes one has to understand that sometimes the information saught may not be readily available.
Given the post from Zarjaz, I think Mr S was spot on, and maybe your apparent tantrum at not getting the exact answer you wanted was a little uncalled for?

Meanwhile the OP has not reappeared . It wasn't even dect's question LOL
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

If the community wide feeling is that I should retire from helping on forums then so be it
That would lose people a lot of secondary checking and help for those who have hit an empasse with the ISP - Openreach interfaces

If the community wide feeling is that I should retire from helping on forums then so be it We could have a vote on it... I suspect it would come firmly in favour of you continuing to help as much as you are able as most of us appreciate the time and effort you spend here.

I must admit after Andrew's first reply I was no wiser than before asking hence my no reply although appreciate any response of course.
Mr Saffron's second reply this morning explained everything nicely to which I thank you.
We had a brief discussion in another post not long ago regarding "Newbies" like myself not understanding the terms / shortcuts / abbreviations to which most of you use in posts regarding fibre, networking, broadband in general.
Please accept my apology for not spending more time on here not learning the trade / descriptions as running my business takes up a lot of my time.
I came here looking for some simple answers from the experts hence I mentioned " Zarjaz or anyone" in my subject line because they are experts in this field.
Sadly I am not although picking things up as I go along.
The old saying remains " If you don't ask you don't get to know"
That still applies with me.
Thank you to all for your input.
FTTP hopefully not too far away after many many years of waiting.
My current 1Mbps download is almost as bad as being back in the 56k modem days, That is still what I am using to send this post.
Not for long fingers crossed.

busterboy, I don't believe Mr.Saffron was seeking to baffle or obscure what your showed, it's just it didn't really show anything 'telling' at all.
Quite why I and Andrew received a tirade from Dect, who knows ????

I actually said
Maybe if you didn't try to be across ever active thread and left others in the know to respond to threads more information may flow between people which is what forums are about. Credit where credit is due the work you do is great and I'm sure everyone appreciates that including me. I was simply trying to say that maybe you shouldn't spread yourself so thinly across so many threads as your quick posts sometime stifle conversation in my opinion.
If anyone want to hammer me for my thoughts then feel free as I won't be making any further comment on this matter.

I suppose if I am honest I was probably hoping to receive an answer like
"Looking at those pictures not long now, just got this to do and that to do and you will be up and running, probably looking for a timescale"
For a man of my age 63 I'm like a young kid waiting to get a new toy.
I guess I'll just keep an eye on these guy's and wait.

"Looking at those pictures not long now, just got this to do and that to do and you will be up and running, probably looking for a timescale" laugh
Ah... but this is B.T.Group.... so the question becomes "how long is a bit of string.... and having installed some twine are we sure its in the right place?"
I understand your frustration, our service was rolled out under the "Superfarce Cymru" scheme and we had to watch as Openjoke firstly surrounded us with FTTC, then after a pause - finally stood a cabinet... only to take it away a few weeks later.... before replacing it on the opposite side of some open space and then waited ages for it to go live. By dint of near obsessive use of the availability checker, I was actually up and running before the official availability notification arrived.
My ex employers village had bundles hanging from poles for around a year while they sorted issues in the area and yet, another friend saw his area completed in weeks. There really is no reliable time scale - which doesnt help you much... but at least progress is being made...

"Looking at those pictures not long now, just got this to do and that to do and you will be up and running, probably looking for a timescale"
But as many of these threads have shown, time and again, there are no hard and fast rules to Openreach's roll out. Weeks, months, years .........
I do know that the roll out is growing apace ........
Just sit tight, enjoy the anticipation.

I think the community here would see you withdrawing from participation as a great loss to the community.
I used to Admin a (now defunct) consumer site, I know what a drain on time it can be - and even how thankless a task it is sometimes. Im not the longest standing member by a long way, but I have always appreciated the well run feel of this site and ADSL Guide.... (seems so long ago now DSL arrived... so much to learn again... )
We are fortunate that the staff here are so professional in their approach, long may it continue!

I've been a forum member for many many years.
Andrew, you've always been courteous and very helpful.
I'm shocked that anyone would criticise you just because you didn't answer an unasked question!

Always happy for people to post more e.g.in addition to, or the longer version is type posts
Remember this is not like some sites, where if one reply that seems to answer the question is made that a thread gets closed, threads are left open for people with follow up questions or to clarify things or point out mistakes etc

That part is how long is a piece of string...
Some say they've had coils like this on poles for four years with no progress, so it could be tomorrow or it could be four years time.

Had sort of covered the time problem with the later part, in that it needs not just the poles you can see but all the other elements to get done as well. So someone might be able to see 1km of manifolds, splitters and fibre joining them but due to 1 silted up duct on a road junction that is waiting on permission to close a road junction for roadworks you are left waiting.

MrS's original post was succinct, accurate, and contained the only useful information which could be extracted from the label (i.e. that the cable carries 36 fibre strands)
In my opinion, a post like that is perfect. It beats unfounded speculation hands down
Keep up the good work.

That's fine Mr S.
I'll crawl under my rock again and keep my fingers crossed for sooner rather than later.
Apologies for the post getting derailed a little.

No need for you to apologise.
People wanting to know more is always good, alas timescales are ones people have learnt to not even hazard a guess at and the label gives no idea of that.
