VDSL Sync / Speed Question

[link to this post]

Can someone please confirm if my thoughts are correct.
Openreach DLM only monitors the connection from router to the cab.
Ive recently bought a separate vdsl modem & router.
Every time I reboot the router Im assigned a new IP address and a new pppoe connection is established.
This should not affect dlm or sync speed? Are my thoughts correct?

rebooting the router in this scenario will not affect DLM

A slight correction however to your original thoughts. The reason it works is that DLM monitors the connection between the modem and the cab.

We generally these days refer to the box we connect our devices to, by ethernet or wifi, as a router, or some ISPs call then hubs. Manufacturers however usually distinguish in the naming between a router and an xDSL router. However even that is simplistic.

Pedantically, a router itself does nothing but route. The domestic ones we buy have a port for the WAN and normally a built-in ethernet switch for the LAN, giving the customary four ports we have for ethernet. Then you get a DSL router which is the same plus a built-in modem, and finally the DSL router that also includes a wireless access point (WAP) with the same casing.

So the typical router these days contains four sub-assemblies. Modem, router, ethernet switch and a WAP.

I hope that helps smile.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up. BQM

Admittedly it was rather loosely phrased when I wrote the question.
Yep, as you already know, you are correct. Also a good answer.

Now i just need to work out why my port forwarding is not working.
I had the asus rt-ac68u previously which has been sold and thought I knew it inside out.
I have just replaced it with the rt-ac57u and the port forwarding is not working as I remember it should.
I have lots of small components like nodemcu's which port forwarding is needed and I'm always rebooting the router, so hopefully, this setup should take care of my needs...........
