In reply to a post by Michael_Chare:
If, as suggested on their website, they are wanting 30% of potential customers to sign up, before they build their network, they may well find that very difficult to achieve especially in view of the Openreach plans for FTTP.

I'm here in Bathampton, had Truespeed dumping loads of leaflet through letter box last few months, also door knocking, been quite a few neetings, daytime & evening, went to one, purely out of interest, only two peeps turned up,me & one other, been same response with other meetings here.
Wasn't that impress with them, tied in for 18 months if my memory is correct, they need a 30% sign up figure, what I did not like was they doing a credit search on you, when you sign up.
I might still have the info lealets, etc, here, will have a rumage.

Westyfield: Truespeed has done Shoscombe I believe, & Peasedown St John was showing intrest, but haven't heard of any progress being made.

We have City Fibre coming to Bath, hopefully they will do my area.

Yeah their website is disappointingly lacking in information.

Saw them up in Combe Down today doing some ducting work though..

Hadn’t quite realised the 30% signups thing, though guess that’s why they’ve been busy leafletting. Presuming that’s for them to do the last mile, and the roadworks we’re already seeing now is the core build?

@Nightglow: Can’t say I’d heard anything about CityFibre coming to Bath (though I’ve at least heard of them!) Got any more details on their rollout locations?

There was a article over at ISP Review.

https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/03/cityfi...

And it's also on City Fibre site under the News section, back on 9th March, & under Residential, you can register an interest, which I have done.

We switched to them, in June 2018. There were some teething problems for the first few months (service went down for short periods), but we were one of the first villages to get it. Since it settled down, there have been no service issues whatsoever (indeed, our previous BT service was less reliable - we are very rural). At the same time they started connecting the village, they also connected our village hall for free (they connect schools for free too, but we don’t have one) - no installation cost, no rental.

They install a single box, and you can’t do any configuration manually at the moment, though their support will make changes for you (I got them to change the SSID for example). I believe there is a static IP option, but can’t remember the details.

They did a Q&A at our village hall. We were told that the current routers installed can go to 1Gbps, and they sell the 200Mbps package cos (basically) that’s all they need to - they can turn it up if needed (there was an incentive offer at the install for 300Mpbs which some went for and still have).

We are heavy users in my house, and we have never seen the bandwidth drop below 200Mbps, no matter the time or day - 4K movies download in no time, streaming 4K never has issues, large Dropbox uploads/sync similarly. Honestly, it’s very stable and very fast. It does what it says on the tin, in our experience.

They piggy-backed cables on the same poles as electric cables within the village, and dug up the roads on longer stretches between villages (short term inconvenience). I only know of one cabinet (about a mile away in the next village) which is just a little larger than a standard small BT cabinet that would serve a village. I’m not aware of any issues regarding it’s installation. You’d have to ask them about UPS, but I’ve never seen anything on any blurb.

Hope this helps.
