Hi,
Does anyone know anything about Truespeed?
They've been doing some marketing locally, but their website doesn't go into much details and searching online doesn't yield much.
Anyone here using them?
I've also got a load of questions which I imagine are probably the normal 'poweruser' ones...
- Can you ditch the ISP supplied router, and feed the WAN port of your own router from the output of their ONT? Presuming that they do a separate Router/ONT setup and not an all in one device?
- Can you get a Static IP address as an add-on?
- They only offer two packages; 200Mb or 250Mb, both fully symmetrical. Presumably their network could do more, just that there isn't the need to offer it as a consumer package yet but will be available in years to come?
- Whilst 200Mb fully symmetrical sounds great, that's only to their own network. What's their backhaul transit links like? Any concerns of congestion?
- What does the rollout of their network physically look like? Do they install lots of big ugly cabinets that are likely to be delayed by residents complaints, etc?
- Do their cabinets or whatever have UPS batteries in them like Openreach cabinets, and ride through a power interruption (providing you've got the same at your end of course).
Basically I hadn't heard of them before the flyer through the door!
Any experiences with them?
Thanks.

Looks like they are pretty new (they were piloting connections in June last year). Suspect there aren't masses of people on the service yet. Their website also doesn't give much away - you would think they would give some information around Static IP - especially for the business services - maybe more info is available when you have entered a postcode that can receive service?
Also, they say they "guarantee out 200Mb/s speeds". I wonder how far this guarantee goes. They are using dedicated fibre to the premises so they can guarantee the connection and the backhaul to the end of that fibre. I wonder if they can guarantee there is and will be no contention anywhere in their own network and so all day and night you will always be able to download at 200Mb/s? Few providers at this price level could provide that guarantee and yet they don't give any other figures that Ofcom require within their code of practice. It is likely that if they don't have many customers that this will be the case at the moment but as they grow they may find it difficult to continue to guarantee no contention.
I think to get answers to your questions your best bet is to contact them and ask them direct - that will also give an indication of what their response is like.

Truespeed have been operating in Somerset for a year or two... Slowly building out their private fibre network.
Service passes past my parents house, but it too costly for them to switch too (they aren't very demanding internet users). They started off offering 100Mbps u/d, but then increased it to 200/200, I guess to look better in various stats
Vodafone Fibre (Superfast2 - 80/20), Draytek 130, DrayTek 2925, DrayTek AP-910c x 2
(Gone but not forgotten: AP-700, 2820n x 2, 2800vg, 2800, HG612)

I was going by a news article I found as there isn't masses of information out in the wilds about them from what I can find on Google.

Mate of mine from Bristol used to work for them but left and went to work for VM.
He never mentioned why.

Found their site but it doesn't give much away on the OPs questions that I can find. As I said if using a postcode that can get service then it may give more info but there is relatively little on the main pages.

Presumably once you are on it you have a very limited choice of providers. If they allow any other than themselves anyway.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

I'm assuming, as I think you are, a choice of 1. Given their size I doubt they would wholesale it.

Or more importantly, whether you could find any other ISP willing to do the development work to integrate into their systems to consume it.

If, as suggested on their website, they are wanting 30% of potential customers to sign up, before they build their network, they may well find that very difficult to achieve especially in view of the Openreach plans for FTTP.
