Digital Scotland R100 checker accurate?

[link to this post]

Got a card through the door about broadband R100 programme or something. We've had FTTC here for years but it's really slow due to distance from the cabinet. Anyway, popped address in and got the following back.

A new superfast connection is being built in your area. It's part of the Scottish Government’s broadband improvement scheme.

Your connection will be delivered after the end of 2021. Based on the current engineering schedule your address is in scope to receive its superfast connection in the second half of 2022.

Bit gutted how long I'll have to wait assuming it's accurate.

Well it's quicker than the 20 years I have been waiting, I can order my FTTP now smile
It took 1 year to build our village 'PON' network once it started.
We know people on Isle of Skye that have been told it will cost them £1000000 to get FTTPon D .

This means that a FTTP connection is on its way to your postcode but not going to be built or ready till after December 2021. This does mean you would be eligible for an Interim voucher though and it should have indicated this on the checker results.

please get in touch and we can check the SBVS site for your eligibility and help you claim the voucher (vouchers can only be claimed through registered approved suppliers)

Thanks

Peter

I got the same card. I was already checking scotlandsuperfast website every couple of weeks for updates prior to the card showing up. Before i got the card i was told i'd receive a superfast connection after 2021 but has now changed and according to them i will get FTTP in 2023 (Lot 3) I suppose we'll see in time if these dates are correct.

I've not heard the £1M price before. Friends in Ullinish ( IV56 8FD ) and Eabost are on the Struan exchange which, as far as I know is all EO and ASDL 2+ at best. They watched the fibre for FTTC in Dunvegan be put in by the road between Sligachan and Dunvegan and right past the Struan exchange! For many of the houses there's no mobile coverage either!

Treat the ScotlandSuperfast website checker with caution. It currently shows my address as having FTTP available. It isn't. My property is part of a CFP project and we are waiting patiently for Openreach to bring fibre to our village. The communication from Openreach since confirmation that the funding was in place has been virtually zero. It takes 4 weeks to get answers to a simple email.
The Openreach checker is not much better. That still just shows that fibre products are not yet available in our area.
If you want an example of lack of joined up thinking, before we got a price from Openreach 2 engineers spent a weekend here last November checking the work required. Last month, now that the job has been passed to the people who have to do the work, 2 more engineers came back to look at what needed doing as the earlier information had not been passed on. It's a wonder that FTTP does seem to be making progress nationally. To me Openreach still seems to operate in weird and wonderful ways.

What about between now and then?

You may be able to get a one-off £400 voucher from the Scottish Government. You will have to engage a provider to apply for this funding on your behalf by 31 December 2021.

This voucher can be used for the cost of fitting a faster commercial broadband supply in the meantime. Think of this as a temporary way to speed things up until the permanent connection is up and running. Options might include things like satellite broadband, 4G, fixed wireless and more.

In regards to the voucher that's what it said, but I have no idea how or where to use it. The site has a list of providers https://broadband.gov.scot/registered-suppliers/ but no idea how you claim the voucher or who it's eligible to be used on. Looking at the link of registered-suppliers the few I've looked at have no interest in my area.

That's rubbish. Hope you get it sooner than that. frown

I do as well. As for the interim voucher just give the isp of your choice a call and bring up the voucher. They will do the rest. If its on the list that is.
