Hoping there is someone here with knowledge of FTTP install that can help me.
Our village has recently been made full fibre capable by Openreach. Most of the houses in the area are serviced by overhead cables, however as ours was built more recently our copper cable comes to the property via underground ducting.
I have placed an order for FTTP and when looking on the BT Wholesale Checker for our property it suggests that install will be via OH cable.
I am interested know if there are any technical/logistical issues that would prevent the same ducting being used? Or if there is a database anomaly and that it is likely the duct can be used (assuming the duct is clear).
Thanks in advance.

It might be any number of things.
Maybe being via a pole was a cheaper option ?
It might be a database issue ?
All sorts of things. Could your existing copper feed run via a duct from an O/H DP ?
Really tricky to offer any suggestions without a bit more info. Exchange name for starters. Current DP number.

Thanks for the quick reply Zarjaz.
I think you’re correct when you suggest it might be ducted from a nearby OH pole. If that is the case, is there likely to be any reason that can’t be done again.
Can I find my DP number online, or is it a case of going out and looking at the pole?

Are you sure its ducted and not directly buried cable? Was yours built on its own or as part a larger development?

It is one of four built at the same time. The guy who had them built is still a neighbour and he is fairly confident they were ducted and that Openreach pulled the copper cable through.

If it's ducted, you may be able to see the point where the duct leaves the ground, and the cable comes out from it (usually with a foam stopper to prevent ingress of muck).
If they're doing OH installs it probably means there's no duct or the duct isn't usable.

Hi There,
Can you give [removed name] an email explaining what you have explained to us, provide your full address and contact number, the team will likely send two engineers in advance and do a advanced install and check if it is possible.
I did the same for a different issue and had a less than 3 hour response on a saturday night and got the line in on a Sunday before I had even ordered the FTTP service.

If it is a duct at the base of a pole where your DP is, then that’s the route the FTTP ought to take.

Just like you said - reply within 3 hours (even over Christmas) and they are going to deal with it!

You may want to redact that email address before the poor guy gets overrun with emails.

I have now sent a private message to the mod to take a look as the name and email address has been there since last night, I do not have a report button.

I do appreciate what your saying but it is on the Openreach website and publicly accessible to anyone who looks hence why I didn't see an issue.
As it was requested I remove, I had attempted to however it looks like the expiration has taken place so was unable to.
Many Thanks,

I do appreciate what your saying but it is on the Openreach website and publicly accessible to anyone who looks hence why I didn't see an issue. That is interesting, as normally organisations the size of openreach wouldn't use an individuals email address. As I work for a very large corporate, I know that publishing indvidual addresses is against our own rules, as it is very hard to change an email.
As it was requested I remove, I had attempted to however it looks like the expiration has taken place so was unable to. Yes, at this point its a post in TTTS or email to team@ after the expiration.
The issue is that these pages are indexed by Google/Bing and probably ChatGPT, and this information will hang around the internet forever, when that poor individual Openreach employee is doing a very different job and finds their email account unusable due to the internet spam.
