Could you possibly tantalise us with some pics of the setup? Never seen an FTTC install.

(you know it's FTTP not FTTC, right)

Yeah, I know smile Just testing...

Thanks for the pics! It's very neat. Much more so than Virgin's Co-Ax implementation.

I was rather hoping they would try & route the via via the same path as the main phone line, so there would be no external cables, but not complaining - exterior wise, it's a neater job than SKY make of their external cabling.

Less than half of people get close to the full 40. Should get over 30 though without too much hassle.

hope you have a high usage allowance. At 80Mbit/s for even 10 seconds on a speedtest is nearly 100MB wink

Well, I'm with AAISP, which I think charge on a units basis.
Stupidly, to 'test' the connection, I started a 3.5gig download (with the intention of cancelling it once I saw how fast it was) - but when I went back to it a few mins later, it had already finished - and that was during peak usage, blitzing my standard allowance. oops

Time to update the sig again! (That's the trouble with sig test results tongue).

Re the tracert, looks like gormless and armless have got excellent legs until they go continental. Maybe they get gippy tummy over there so have to slow down.

Thanks!

Was mostly interested in the first hop but routing to my favourite danish quakeworld server is nice to see too!

Surprised a bit that the first hop is 5ms - most Australian first hops I've seen from the NBN are around 1ms. I get 5-6ms on Be fastpath! But I suppose you can't really complain about that! smile

(for reference, NBN = national broadband network, rolling out FTTP to 93% of country and replacing the copper network)

"Crikey"

Certainly more ambitious than the puny 20% or whatever it is that BT are aiming for by 2015

And are they actually ripping out the old copper lines, or leaving both?

Edit: Just seen that NBN project is aiming for 2020, so hopefully BT can improve upon their 20% by then. But still, nice to see a bit of ambition, rather than just 'dipping the toes in the water' that BT have been doing (though looking at the 2012+ plan, more and more exchanges look like they will be FTTP enabled.

Also, you have to remember that the Aus Gov is pumping A$27.5 billion into building the new network. Whereas in the UK the goverment is putting in around £530 million and BT is putting £2.5 billion.
