Surprised a bit that the first hop is 5ms - most Australian first hops I've seen from the NBN are around 1ms. I get 5-6ms on Be fastpath! But I suppose you can't really complain about that!
Don't forget in the UK on all BTwholesale links (ADSL, ADSL2+, FTTC, FTTP) the traffic to the ISP is encapsulated within PPP. So there is a lot of kit we are passing through that IP doesn't see until the tunnel is opened at the ISP (AAISP in this case).
Once we see results from a VULA/GEA connected ISP (such as TalkTalk today, hopefully others in future) we might see a reduction in that 5ms.
BE don't use PPP at all, so you see exactly what your line can do. I've seen less than 5ms on fastpath, but the line was unreliable....
We all want FTTP
