I've started a map of cabinets that I remember seeing, colour coded, green as a new box, yellow as an old one. Feel free to add your local cabinets smile

Still not seen any, but then I have not really been around much in Hereford these last few weeks.

Seems strange that your map got cabinets at Whitecross, I thought BTOR would concentrate more on postcodes that are a bit further away from the Exchange, since people around that area should be able to get a good speed anyway.

I got a visit on Wednesday from some from All pay, I will have a chat and see where I go from there. TBH, I don't need or want 40megabits and if I was close enough to the exchange to get 10megabits I would stay as I am.

if I can get 10 megabits from all pay, then to be honest that will be fast enough and at least as I said before, i don't have to rely on Bt old copper wire up the street which is to be honest falling apart.

I have seen a few BT vans around the last few days, i just hope it will be ready to order by the end of June. I'm about 600 metres from the exchange, anyone have a rough idea of what speed i'll be looking at? The exchange checker says i'll get 75mb down and 20 up but in reality i'm not sure i will.

I've now plotted 10 new cabinets on the map:

I heard 10 was the minimum before they'll activate the exchange....

I'm wondering if I've made a few mistakes. I was going off a picture of the cabinets that said it was FTTC, but looking at other pictures of FTTC cabinets, I'm wondering if some of those are. They are similar shapes and colours, but I don't think they are the FTTC cabinets. My bad, feeling a bit pessimistic about this month now...

it don't matter how far you are away from the exchange it is how far you are from the cabinet as the last part is still going over antique BT cables that is falling apart.

One reason why I am looking at All pay, the only thing that may stop me is short term price.

i have to pay £29 for a cease connection from ADSL24, then a £100 connection fee, sure I can pay it monthly, but it is still £100.
The other thing is upload, all pay is 1Megabit, fibre is up to 20 depending on what service you go for.

Pricing per month is not that much different, ADSl24 on a package that would just about do for me is about £29, then phone line rental on top.

All pay is £29 for ten megabits, sure it is not as fast as 30-40 that fibre offers, but then I don't need a phone line either.

sure I could go with one of the larger ISPs like Bt, Talk Talk or sky, but to be honest they are not that much cheaper, but they do have unlimited data and going back to Bt is something I don't want to do and there is no way on this earth that I would touch Talk talk with a barge pole.

The other one is sky and while their broadband is pretty good, their router is not so good and the fibre version is just a ADSL router with a different firmware. also do I really want to support Murdoch?

I got a visit from All pay in the week to have a chat, how many other ISps will do that? so I will see what happens then.

I just been for a walk, to get some air and because I needed to get some malt loaf from co-op, Venns lane got nothing and I mean nothing, which is strange as I am sure they had a cabinet on the college road side, maybe I was dreaming, Penn grove got one but no fibre, College Roadby co-op nothing apart from normal cabinet.
Link is to picture I took, just because I can smile

Who ever is updating that map is getting it wrong.

I said ages ago that knowing Hereford it will be months before it happens.

I wouldn't get too excited, if the roll out is anything like ours, we had 10 cabs pretty quickly, but then they need to connect power, ties cables, unblock ducts, blow the fibre in. Some cabinets they've dug up three or four times. Bottom line is my cabinet was installed in February, some a little earlier and a lot in March, and they have only just started enabling them.

My guess is your looking at two to three months at least from when the cabs first appeared.

I just walked passed PCP18 in White Cross Road. It looks like it's recently been re-skinned but only with a standard PCP cabinet, no vents, no FTTC. I' saw them re-skin one down by ASDA last week too, I was expecting it to be a fibre cab, but there too it's just a newer PCP.

Interesting (or not) Cab 18 has a label that says "CCC Cabinet 7/7". No idea what CCC is.

Think the cab status obn the map needs updating to reflect, but it's a great idea, I'll post up the locations of some more cabs in the next few days if you feel like adding them.

Note there are some Cabs even in town itself that are not due to get fibre at this stage..
