.... Oh and my attenuation has remained at the higher value of 63.5 .... (was 59 for the last 3 years)

Then maybe they done something at the exchange, but the FTTC roll out will not affect ADSl or voice calls.

At your attenuation i am shocked you get the speed you do, I think I got around 55 and only got around 4Mb/s because I was on a decent network that allowed me to change the SNR without it going crazy.

someone I know that lives close to me put in for FTTC and BT turned down the order, which is strange because their own site says it is available here, so do Sky and so do talk Talk.

they have decided to look elsewhere now and not Talk Talk or sky.

My SNR has always been low which suits me as prior to cutting the power off yesterday and rebooting the modem my uptime is usually weeks and although in the past my voice calls have been a bit 'hissy' (voice calls are something I very rarely use anyway) they seem to have cleared up now and my DSL is always rock solid.

I remember back in my Plusnet days I had to fight with tech support to get a target SNR of 9.0 - when they found out I was using software to lower it (albeit to a limited amount) they informed me I was breaking the law and not to ask for any support again otherwise they would phone the police and have me arrested for hacking.

.... I nearly [censored] myself with laughter .....

Anyway since being with Sky my SNR has always had a target of 6.0 but frequently wanders below that - as I said the only thing to have changed is my attenuation and I cannot understand how the hell an increase could ultimately result in a better service.

If it's the kempton avenue cab - there's known issues with joints in underground cables hence why we get stupid rates. They've put new joints on them over the years but I think it was a that's how it is fix.

I got in touch with the contractor Damian @ wilkinson-helsby re the cabinet and he's gone quiet since asking which dept in bt i work for (which I dont).

This is my router stats since two days ago;

Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 968 kbps 723 kbps
Line Attenuation 61.5 db 37.0 db
Noise Margin 9.5 db 6.6 db

I was hoping the sync speed would sort itself out but no luck yet, I may have to ring the ISP frown

Have the cabinet installs stopped?

Difficult to see what is happening due to the council tool tasked with updating the streetworks list being completly incompetent

Illegal? smile oh dear.

The problem with changing a SNR on most networks, certainly with Bt is that it confuses the hell out of their line management system. with Cable and wireless they did not have anything like that, so if I put my SNR down to 1 it would stay at 1, ok so it would no doubt disconnect a lot, but ti would stay there.
Come to think of it i put my SNR down to 4 and it stayed connected for weeks.

Plusnet is another BT clone that uses the same system, but traffic manage like hell, which is why when they took over Metronet I jumped ship as fast as I could , even if it was to AOL, which was not owned by Talk Talk at the time.

Now Plusnet is BT.

Rang adsl24 today after five days of 0.9mbps, rebooted router and it jumped to 2.8mbps (usually 0.9 and never ever seen it above 2.1) so after feeling like an idiot on the phone I closed the case. Came home after work and it was back to 0.9 again even after 3 reboots frown I really hope they can get the fibber install sorted ASAP! Has anyone else managed to get an install booked yet?
