so its not really a no openreach modem.

I read the subject and thought no modem had been left, instead the engineer just didnt plug it in.

e.g. you might find the DLM and the Draytek "fight" over something really obscure, and the line performance degrades, as we've read about Draytek VDSL in this BBS before.

I run two other sites with Draytek 2850 variants and one with a Cisco 887VA - al without Openreach modem. No problems yet after many months.

Still overpriced IMO. A £10 router with a free OS on it can do all that, and is just as robust, if not more so. All this enterprise branded stuff is just hogwash. I get more disconnects and reboots on Cisco 2602's than on a £5 router running an alpha version of Openwrt.

BT have requirements for 3rd party modems that will be used on an FTTC connection (I think they relate mainly to vectoring, but don't know the details).

A quick check shows that the 887VA with current firmware should support vectoring, at least on the 17a profile.

I would imagine that a wires only install would include the interstitial filter plate as used currently rather than external microfilters. This should reduce the level of problems. Of course, if a customer has no NTE5 then one may need to be installed (as happened for me yesterday)

It seems the BT Shop sells Cisco 887VA routers which it advertises as VDSL/ADSL compatible.

I wonder how well BT would fare if it tried to take action for breaching Ts&Cs againsst a BT Infinity customer who purchased this router from BT and used it to replace the Openreach modem.

Attainable rate down is 127115kbps and up is 43215kbps. If only Profile 30a was available. This was the fastest the engineer had seen to date.

I suspect this is one of the first connections into the cabinet so it's going to be interesting to see how speeds drop over time as more connections are made. and crosstalk increases.

We were the first FTTC connection on our cabinet on 1 June 2013 and our initial attainable rates were 106/36. Over the last year the attainable rates have dropped to 86/27 and have been stable at that for some months now.

But there will still need to be a visit to teh cabinet and that is where a majority of the work is actually done. The premises side is just a small part and the cost savings small.
