Thanks. What can I do about that don't bt have an obligation for me to have superfast broadband or is it a complete lottery meaning I pay more for my slower broadband than my neighbours?

Oh, so you can get FTTC. The best thing to do is to get it and see what your line stats look like.

I do have it but only get 6.5 download and 0.7 upload and bt tell me there is no problem with my line. The engineer that installed said I should be able to get 40meg but there was a DSL fault on the line which bt deny

This is getting a bit confusing. So you have BT Infinity FTTC already. Your estimated speed is 13-19 Mbps (it would still be nice to see the full output from the BT checker) and your actual speed is 6.5Mbps. Is that right? What speed did BT indicate you should get when you placed the order (they have to provide this)?

what I really want to understand is why my neighbours both. Closer and further away from the cabinet are able to get much higher speeds. It's definitely the same cabinet

The linestats will give you an idea why.
