Data Extension Kit

Hello,

I have my fibre install booked for the 30th but I am contemplating having the modem/router placed upstairs on the landing. I have not decided yet, I assume if I ask the open reach engineer to install the extension anyway until I have made a decision (if I have not by then) that will be okay? Or does it need to be used for the engineer to sign off on the job.

Which ISP? As far as I know only BT (Infinity) order it for the job by default. Others you have to order it, even though its free.

If it isn't ordered I don't know if the engineer would install it, and if you get a Kelly's or Quinn's one there's a fair chance they won't know what your are talking about anyway.

As long as you have ordered it you should be OK, and you don't have to have it if you change your mind.

Edit - it didn't really click in my head that you might not have decided by the time. If he installs it, as I understand it you could use either the master or that new extension for the FTTC. I could be wrong about being able to use either!

Aye I mean if I have nit decided to move the router to the top landing (need to test wiresless performance) can the engineer fit this anyway and I can decide to use it or not?

That is fine so long as the extension kit plugs into the relevant socket on the faceplate (it would then have to be unplugged to plug in the modem)

But if the extension kit were fitted using the internal IDCs of the faceplate (a neater approach) then if the faceplate socket were used, the extension kit would act as a bridge tap. It may make little difference as it would be quite short, but you never know.

Nope, we order by default and have always done, even when it cost us to do so. We have always felt it was part of the job to ensure to a good solid install for our clients.

Naturally I can't speak for other providers.

In which case it would be best to take the lower section of the master socket off and hook the wires out of the A and B idc connections.
