Re: New Exchanges being enabled Aug 13 onwards.

It is correct to say that the majority of Exchanges on Anglesey are enabled but in reality very few cabinets are live. The SuperFast Wales is not the best for detail, some areas are still being shown as being rolled out in March 14. This date has come and gone with very little activity in these areas. My Exchange, Brynsiencyn was originally due for rollout Dec 13 then March 14 now June 14 and no doubt that will slip to Dec 14. Meanwhile, we are being told that roll out on Anglesey is on track!. In an area with speeds of 1-2 mb,to have one hopes raised and then continually deflated is most frustrating.

Anglesey has some 18 exchanges, and Menai Bridge is larger with 15 cabinets, 12 with RFS and 10 enabled
Amlwch has 9 cabs, 5 in roll-out and 4 enabled
Holyhead has 19 cabs, and 13 with plans, are any live yet?

The problem with any project over a wide area (32,000 homes approx.) and some 90 potential cabinets, that lots can be going on in other areas but not your own.

The pattern so far looks to be the large exchanges (makes sense as they will host the fibre handover) and cabinets on those, and then creeping out to the smaller exchanges.

Holyhead, the largest town on the island pop. approx. 12000, have no live cabs and rollout planned for June 14. I live 3 miles from my exchange (Brynsiencyn) one cab is installed but no new fibre cab. Much civil engineering work on behalf of BT has been carried out in our village with 14 new manholes with varying lengths of trenches with grey ducting with blue thick string attached. Excuse my ignorance, but in view that the exchange is shown to eventually be FTTC/P, is this an indication that the village will be FTTP?. Your observations would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on where the ducting has been laid if fits in with heading between cabinet and exchange then most likely for the cabinets.

The ducting will probably a black with yellow stripe cable pulled through

that is the fibre tubing which has small tubes in it through which the fibre is then blown with a compressor

Once manholes start to have stuff that looks like

in them then get more excited

That happened around my area also. Exchanges gets "enabled" after they put in two cabinets, then work stops for 18 months while they go "enable" other exchanges. By stop I'm not kidding either - a pile of cabinets were installed in early/mid 2012 then just sat unused until very recently, and some are still not connected.

I wonder if it's a case of meeting targets on exchanges activated, either internal ones or a more political reason.

In reply to a post by fiddler:
I'm not so sure of that. this shows evidence of some exchanges in rural areas being enabled not rural areas themselves .Unless someone lives within a few km of the exchange, this won't make any difference to them.

With the exception of Llanelli, there isn't a single exchange in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion or Powys enabled.

This is very much a WAG Labour/PC constituency area rollout in time for elections.

Meanwhile, Superfast have one very quiet on future roll out plans - no updates this year.

I agree. West Wales is being overlooked for political reasons. The contested votes are in the SE Wales valleys and roll-out is advanced there.
