U must be lucky Paul with your BTBroadband Infinity 4 with 310Mbps (down) and 31Mbps (up)

Not during peak times we are not LOL, we loose up to 80% of that 300 from 5pm to midnight and over the weekends.

BT say it isn't an issue until our speed goes down below 20Mbps (i.e. 6.6% of speed) LOL.

This is it now:

and

Sort of congested, but not that bad.

But still better than what we got on ADSL2+ smile

The first few hours we was doing tests to see how quick stuff would download, yes I know that's sad LOL.

Well, when it comes to a real area and not just a poncy part of Swansea then I will see if I can get it

But I won't hold my breath.

Well I don't check it all the time, but I have seen it drop from 310Mbps down to 65Mbps, granted its still a good speed (i.e. its still 13x faster than what we had before), but it was just a shock due to I have never had a high enough speed to see congestion.

I know its not the fibre from us to the exchange due to there is only about 5 of the possible 32 split fibres used and I know that 2 of them are on Infinity 1.

So my guesses are BT are cramming too many connection together.
But saying that, I do recall an engineer saying something about our exchange being a mess and not enough fibres at the back end (I think they called it that) so maybe that caused the speed issue. I know that about ~13K lines out of the ~25K lines are still waiting for fibre, which was down for FTTP the same time as us.

So overall I am still happy with this fibre connection, so far we have been able to still do what we want during those peek times, so no complaints from us.

Well I was told when G.FAST starts to be rolled out that the remaining lines on our PCP cabinet that didn't get FTTP when we did, this was told by a couple of engineers I have spoken to and also confirmed by Openreach when I have spoken to them on the phone.

Our Exchange has in the past been used for pilot schemes and was told they will be later on.

However this won't affect me at all due to we are on FTTP, unless they want to pilot higher speeds which I wouldn't mind LOL.

But like you put it, I won't believe it until I see it.

It seems that technically they aren't cramming enough together. It is a shared service and is not sold as you getting the full speed the whole time. If a previous post is correct and 20Mb is all they guarantee then actually they are still providing 3 times the speed than they actually need to so could oversubscribe it further.

It you want to get full speed all the time then you have to spend significantly more on a lease line with 1:1 contention. If you pay consumer prices then you should expect to see contention and BT are not cramming "too many" connections together but are correctly running their services.
