ONT & BBU

Hi all

I've got what I believe is a standard FTTP install with an ONT & BBU. I really don't need the BBU as the ONT is right by a UPS that I can use, and I don't use FVA. Is there any reason that I can't remove the BBU?

Not that I can think of.

Complain to your service provider .... though it's not actually causing any technical issue as such.

Should be OK, Worth keeping it nearby in case of issues in the future ...

I take it that the PSU just plugs straight into the ONT instead of the BBU - seems like a simple question with an obvious answer but as it's not my kit I'd rather not make an incorrect assumption

Yep, take the lead from the BBU to the ONTE out, and replace where you removed it from on the ONTE with your supply .......

'course if this causes issues, then expect a bill for repair.

My BBU isn't actually installed, it's sitting in its box on a shelf.

However, that wouldn't be the way to do it with my ONT/BBU as the cable from the BBU has a different type of plug (with more connections) on it than the one from the PSU.

In my case I would unplug the round plug from the PSU which would/should be feeding the BBU and insert it into a different socket underneath the ONT marked 'Power' (i.e. not the socket on the side of the ONT marked 'BBU')

The BBU power connector does go into the ONT power input. No idea what the other plug does, but one end of the cable has a CAT5 looking plug on it - even I'm not stupid enough to try and force a barrel connection into a rectangle socket.
