I would say you are on a longer line than that.

Our copper line is about 480m and says we could get the following if we went with FTTC:

[Range A (Clean)]
44 - 64.9Mbps (down), 11.6 - 17.4Mbps (up)

[Range B (Impacted)]
32.4 - 52.3Mbps (down), 7.9 - 14.9Mbps (up)

So I am guessing its probably at least 480m of cable between you and your cabinet(s).

And there is a nice chart here: https://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/2013/chart-...

although I don't know how up-to-date it is with regards to things like 3dB SNR.

Or https://www.thinkbroadband.com/guides/fibre-fttc-ftt... which in a previous version pre-dates the other site.

To show what 3dB might do we would need to have multiple versions, and also different versions for the cabinet manufacturer too, i.e. probably need 6 or more tables which gives information overload.

We did update the table in 2017 based on the overall changes we were seeing from everyone running speed tests.

Looks like I'm not going to get much more speed unfortunately then. I did change the rj11 cable between my filtered socket from the free flat one that Sky include in the box to a twisted pair one (cat 5e I think) from Tandy and now get these stats instead. Maybe a little better?
Router Statistics
System Up Time: 644:44:04
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collision Pkts Tx b/s Rx b/s Up Time

LAN Up 23888257 12417508 73 5310 4765 644:44:04
WLAN Up 28001306 9863946 0 694479 47290 644:43:28

Noise Margin 9.3 dB 9.9 dB

BT Infinity 2 - Predicted speed 54.7Mbps down/15.7Mbps up. Actual speed 42Mbps down/4.5Mbps up...crazy Left BT as they were poor...
Now with Sky Fibre - 37.5Mbps down, 9.5Mbps up

My line attenuation is 1 dB more than yours, I achieve 58Meg connection speed on a 3dB noise margin and GINP enabled. On 6db noise margin and no GINP, the speed was around 45Meg. So deciding if the switch is worthwhile really depends if your cabinet supports GINP and lower noise margins.

A fault on my line a few years ago, measured its length with a TDR as 670m and the break was before the PCP but on the D side. So my total line length is around 700m given the position of the DSLAM.

sidef - those are impressive figures for that length of line. Gives me hope I can squeeze a bit more out. That's assuming Sky are willing to lower my noise margin, or I buy a new router and tweak it myself to see what I can get.

On VDSL2/FTTC, you can't change the noise margin, DLM decides whether it can be lowered, if your modem supports it. You need to be on a Huawei cabinet (or an all in one) for it to be worth switching.

Your line is clearly capable of supporting a faster speed as indicated by Openreach. Your attenuation should give c55Mbps. It's unfortunate that your current modem only show the speed at which you are synched, which is the maximum for your package, rather than also what the line can support. Without that information any upgrade to a faster package is a gamble so perhaps you should do this via an ISP such as A&A that will pressure Openreach if the line doesn't meet the expected speeds.

Thanks sidef and MCM. I shall check out A&A - not heard of them before.
