Poor FTTC Speed from Cab

Hello,

I have a question on behalf of my Sister.

She has really poor speeds for her Broadband, she did (to my knowledge) move to FTTC but that didn't improve the situation.

According to Telecom Tariffs checker the line is 1,046m, but I am not sure if that's from the CAB.

Clearly from the potential speeds it's a long line, is there any technology coming that can help?

According to Telecom Tariffs it's an ECI cabinet.

Also would it be worth contacting Open Reach?

Any advice would be fantastic.

What speeds is she actually getting? And is she testing using a wired or wireless connection?

When she switched to FTTC did the service provider send her a new router, and did she install it?

Without seeing actual connection data from the modem hard to say much more.

As for technology well we will all have FTTP by 2033, but in the short term i.e. next couple of months nothing.

It's hard to say (and I appreciate that's not so helpful).

She just said that the connection was really slow when they moved to Fibre, she said the ISP mucked up, but frankly based on the "potential" connection speeds it would hardly be a leap.

I can do some investigation when I am next down there.

Yes they did, it was SKY at the time, and they have now moved (to my knowledge) to BT.

I can appreciate that, it was just an idea if something "could" be achieved. I guess it's mainly down to a long line.

Wow 2033.... only 15 more years to wait ( I think)

2033 being the goal that was in the news this week. Not a firm target but more a political aspiration from what I have seen. If it does come off then of course any single line could happen at any point between now and then - or someone else might come in with a different solution for a particular property.

Of course, all of the wireless ISPs and satellite providers will be really happy that the government have effectively said their services will not be required because everyone will have FTTP.

Looking at the estimates, I don't see any real reason to upgrade from ADSL2+ to VDSL.

That's why they downgraded, the original ISP had promised faster speeds.. but in reality it was worse..

It's a pity that they are so far from the Cabinet!
