help with line extension.

[link to this post]

I need to put in an extension from the master socket, I have looked on the BT Openreach website and got this information about how to add an extension.

NTE5C Instructions

But I was wondering if someone could tell me if I need to put a filtered socket or a micro filter on the other socket that i've extended.

It would be for FTTC and the extension is not too far but running CAT5 and leaving the router next to the master socket is not a possibility.

Thanks.

Two answers

1. if you have just the NTE5C then yes a filter will be needed on the other socket, assuming you are also connecting a phone. Even if not using a phone the micro-filter will perform the plug conversion from BT socket to the RJ11 of the modem lead. As this is FTTC I would recommend not inserting the wire into number 3 which is the ring wire.

OR

2. If it is a NTE5C with a MK4 4 VDSL filter plate then you need to use the red connection on the back of the MK4, since the blue or clear connector that is part of the 5C will be filtered once the VDSL2 faceplate is plugged in. Same issues arise around using a micro filter to perform the plug conversion for you.

As far as the conversion goes if it is connected from the data terminals then if a phone is not required at the extension then a standard RJ11 socket could be used rather than a BT socket.
