Hub 6 replacement

[link to this post]

Im getting well and truly fed up with BT/OR.

The previous Hub issue linkresurfaced a week or so later and then again a week after that. So far, were on our fourth Hub6.

After a power cut, the Hubs just seem to pack up and have a mind of their own. Despite turning off the OR wall modem for a few minutes then back on, the Hubs refuse to connect, even after being turned off or factory re-set. They either go solid orange or solid blue but with no internet connection in either case and the hub is inaccessible via 192.168.1.254 The latest light display is flashing purple before going back to orange.

The wall modem lights are on for power, PON and Port 1.

This morning, after a fuse tripped, Ive gone through the whole shenanigans again and even a brand new Hub fresh out of the wrapper would not connect, leading me to think that the problem is with the wall modem.

An engineer visit is booked but I suspect Ill get a call about a data integrity error a day before and no engineer will visit.

So, given the temperamental nature of the BT Hub 6, are there any suggestions for a replacement for Infinity 4? I know the Hubs dont appear to be the issue but not being able to access them doesnt help either.

Any decent router with a WAN port will do.

You would need to list a budget, some requirements and I'm sure many would suggest good alternative routers.

Routers range from £20 to £300+ for the domestic end but to get the best out your 330Mb I wouldn't cheap out too much.

Go for a Netgear R7800 or Asus RT-AC86U. The Netgear is the best router around for wifi but if you need advanced features on a router (such as VPN client/server) then go for the Asus. If those are out of your budget then something like the TP Link Archer C7 is a good cheapo router.

Very strange for so many to turn faulty, I have a SmartHub Version A which I got years ago, and a version B which I just got when I recontracted.

Well, Openreach modem power, PON and PORT1 light on solid.

Orange light on Hub6, even new one fresh out of wrapping.

Cables all correct.

Openreach modem and lights indicate Hub problem, brand new Hub says otherwise.

I have no idea.

To check if the Openreach ONT is functioning try an Ethernet PPPoE connection direct from a PC so removing the Hub from the system. If that works the problem must be down to the Hub for some reason.

And just like that, it's working again.

Came home to orange light. Turned off the Hub, turned it on, made a cuppa and now blue with working internet.
