FTTP/H OLT Location?

[link to this post]

Hi Folks,

Trying to understand more around FTTP/H and GPON, etc.

Live on a new development which is fibre all the way and luckily enough to have the full 330/50.

I saw another article which suggests BT OR will be offering faster speeds from March/April onwards, but for some folks who are on ECI kit, they are limited to 330 until they upgrade the OLT/Head end which got me thinking.

I'm trying to work out where the OLT would be physically located in the network... Would it be on the edge of the development? In some of the ducts/manholes within the pavement or actually in the exchange?

Curious to learn as BT is my ISP and am on the top package, if BT OR increase the speeds, if I will get an automatic upgrade of if it's likely to remain until end of contract.

Ta!

It's in the Handover exchange that the fibre runs back to.

This isn't always the same exchange your copper line runs to.

There would be no automatic upgrade. You're already getting what you pay for.

They simply won't sell higher tier packages for those on ECI kit. Even those on Huawei kit need to pay for upgrades*

* Unless an ISP makes their own decision to give free upgrades to all customers.
Like how BT increased the upload from 30Mb to 50Mb on packages.
This required recontracting in many cases.

Thanks. Is there anyway to find out where this is?

I know on the checker site it used to tell you which cabinet you were served from on which exchange (e.g. Cabinet 26 on exchange XXXX), this time it just lists my main exchange (which is 1.5km as the crow flies - I know fibre will take a different path for roads, etc.)

Thx

If you name the exchange shown to you then someone will tell you if it's a Handover exchange or not.
If it isn't they can tell you which exchange the fibre runs to.

There's no public list to check yourself.

If the checkers are saying only fibre (FTTP) is available to you then the exchange named will be the handover exchange
