Gently prod Openreach

[link to this post]

I ordered FTTP from BT on 30th December with a live date of 17th January, the duct was rodded to check for blockages on 31st December. A blockage was found and reported with an ETA of 7-10 days for this to be cleared.

That blockage was cleared on 14th January and duct has had the blue rope to pull the fibre through since then in a process that took 20 minutes as the blockage just needed a big shove with a rod.

The problem now, nearly 2 weeks after duct clearing and with no activity is that according to BT's last update the contractors haven't confirmed that the work is complete to Openreach, possibly as they didn't need to dig, so no one is doing anything and no one will take my word for the duct baing roped even though I can see it!

Is there any way to gently prod them to send someone check or pull the fibre? My Virgin service ends before the new live date and I'm getting twitchy!

I think I remember you saying in a previous thread that you have a live date of sometime in mid Feb for fibre due to the blockage.

Indeed, although BT didn't think it would take anywhere near that long. So wasn't quite as concerned then.

But there has been 2 weeks of no activity because subcontractors haven't notified work complete and until they do, nothing will happen. Meanwhile the clock ticks on and there is a gap of over a week between 1 service ending and the next starting.

If the blue rope is in place then would expect no other work until the install day when someone will use the rope to pull the fibre cable and connect you up.

What further work are you expecting?

I thought they pulled it in advance and coiled it up? I appear to have gotten that bit wrong, oops.

The hope would be to get an install date before the arbitrary date set around 4 weeks ago. I think the frustration comes from a new install date obtained when the work was complete would have been sooner than the date set and it seems to be set in stone due to the subcontractor not notifying work complete.

It most likely would have been filed and left, IF the initial rod and rope task hadnt proved problematic ( some of the cobra rods have more ooomph in them than others)

Now its been roped, then the install will all be done on the day I expect.

Stage 1 install was done on Tuesday, there is a coil of hybrid fibre/copper pair at the duct mouth.

Phoned BT and now have a confirmed stage 2 install on Monday 3rd. Did I read somewhere that CSP boxes are now quite standard? The coil of cable probably won't be long enough to go through the existing internal ducting to where the NTE5 is.

Just relieved that there is now a bit of overlap rather than a big gap between the services starting and stopping.

The CSPs disappeared for a while, but are now back in favour, with inside out kits used to run from the ONT.
