What you desire will only happen if BT release the SIP details for the service to individuals
So just trying to piece this together in my peanut sized brain.
- BT only provide FTTP with a phone line.
- It is likely that once they know about my existing phone line they want to transfer it for me and ditch my copper line. Which may need exchange work to kill it, thus allowing them toan take the number to FTTP. Thus stopping the order from going ahead.
- It is possible they could give me a whole new VOIP number/line if I lie and say I don't have a phone. Thus I have FTTP and phone.
- If I ever want to use the new phone line I have to use their router as the phone only plugs into their router.
- If I then want to use my router I would have to be double NAT'd which would be an issue for VPN, which may be workable round, and I can't use the VOIP functionality on my router as they won't release the SIP details.
So basically next step is ask for an FTTP service, it they ask if I have a phone number the answer is no. See if they can send me live via that route. So just have to get past FTTP sales, through to FTTP sales support, who then had to speak to their support, the Ninja's Ninja as it were.
If I get a response will feed back.
Thanks for the pointers.
Dave
