Apologies for late replies - just back from work:

Re MHC - tried this with BT they have refused to connect to FTTC as they say the speed will be less than 10Mb and will not proceed. It appears I don't have any choice in the matter - this was previously suggested by one of the BT engineers who assessed our line a few years ago.

Re Fastman3 - quote was for 26 premises and came to £585445 a staggeringly large figure. Its fair to say no one will pay this.

Re Aptman - area is BT51 5XP.

Yes BT (and a couple other ISP's) won't provide FTTC below certain speeds.
This will probably be to keep their advertised average speeds higher.

You're not limited to using BT though. FTTC can sometimes work well at longer distances, particularly on state funded cabinets with Vectoring enabled.

What are your VDSL estimates on the Broadband Availability Checker ?

Fair enough - thanks for the quick reply - any other options that you know of?

You're quite rural and spread apart judging by a quick postcode search on google maps. Any type of cabled solution is going to be expensive per premises, based on the relatively large civils costs and low premises density.

What is terrain like?A (shared) leased line and distributed wireless solution may be an option worth investigating.

Re: j0hn83-
No mention of VDSL on this checker - only ADSLMax and ADSL2+.

Re: APTMAN-
This would still leave over £20k per household - the grant is minimal.

Re: Pheasant-
The ground is flat no major developments.

Looks like my broadband speed will remain at 2Mb via fixed line. Guess I will have to look into 5G once it arrives. What is really annoying is that BT are spending large sums in the adjacent town 1.5 miles away changing FTTC to FTTP.
It's really hard to see the justification for this.....

The justification is a potential customer base that will generate returns on the investment, the economics just don't work for low population densities.

assume this rural northern ireland

i would suggest that their is either a signicant amount of direct in ground between cab and you or betwen cab an the premises you have asked for which is skewing the costs on this are the premises close together are are they dispersley spread and are they all off the same cabinet and exchange

I wouldn't expect too much from 5G in a rural area. The high speeds with 5G are in dense areas using high frequencies - those frequencies don't have much range, so lower frequencies will be used in rural areas which will have correspondingly lower bandwidth.

Further up Blacklock road ( Past McIntosh BS) has FTTP already so not far away. NI actually has a really good penetration of FTTP so you need to talk to whoever in the Assembly is responsible for the subsidy scheme

Hi Kit-Kat,

I've spoken to local representatives and we are waiting on news regarding Project Stratum. Our location is in the database but there appear to be a lot of locations there including those that already have FTTC that I am aware of.
I have no idea who I could speak to about this as the information as always is limited and protected - any ideas?
