Ok so the estimate for G.fast will be much the same then? But more likely FTTC line might reduced VDSL sync rate?

I would suggest waiting until the line gets installed and if the speed falls below the advertised speed, cancel the line. G.fast uses different spectrum so you shouldn't have issues on the VDSL service.

Edit: Ah it's a BT Hub, so the (limited) stats are built into the router.

I think so, BT Hub or openreach modem as BT ISP told me engineer will come to change master socket to G.fast socket and bring his openreach modem with him.

Whatever it says in the contract you signed.

If the contract guarantees 100M downstream and makes no claim on upstream, then you will be able to cancel it only if you get less than 100M downstream.

You have nothing to lose only something to gain by ordering G.fast, you've lived without G.fast until now so try not to worry as you don't want to make yourself ill and be in hospital when they come to install it.
