HI All,
I have recently been able to place my FTTP order and am due to have things installed in early January.
The duct from the road which I presume they will use currently feeds into my house in the living room but Ideally I would much rather have my network equipment installed in my home office upstairs which is above the living room.
Would the engineer be allowed to run the cabling up the wall and into the office?
Failing that I assume I could run my own Ethernet cable back outside from from the ONT and have the router in the office upstairs?

I think you will need to ensure you use exterior grade Ethernet cable, not the usual stuff, if you do do this.

Doubtless, this is your best option. Saving on grief, and ensuring you get the router where you want it.
Unusual to hear you say the current duct comes up in the living room ?? Are you sure this isn’t a direct in ground cable ?

Sorry I wasn't clear enough it comes up on the outside wall of the living room

OK, is the room upstairs where you want the kit above the living room ? So there’s spare mains power, and drilling straight through the outside wall of the upstairs wall brings you out somewhere above the external duct ?
If yes, then it ought to be pretty straightforward.

Yes thats correct I just wasn't even sure if you could ask them to put it somewhere different to where it would normally come into the house.

Will Open Reach put anything over the fibre 'cable', or is it better if bobo-uk installs a vertical conduit to where he wants it to go through the wall?
Cheers!

Ideally of course, yes, but it's not as if it's carrying mains electricity. Our last house I had 4 sets of bog standard CAT 5 cable going up the wall on the outside. It was there 19 years, it was still working fine when we moved out.

Then that ought to be pretty straight forward for the installer. *

No, they won’t Clive. If he wishes to fit a conduit and drawer cord, that’s up to him. I would rather hope it isn’t required. Cables getting cut outside properties is usually the result of Edward Scissorhands doing the gardening, not malicious.
