Another FTTP Availability Query

[link to this post]

Hi

After watching over 12 months of work by OR contractors it appears that myself and 2 neighbouring streets are the only ones in our part of town that cannot order FTTP broadband. The exchange is Aberdare (SWAA). When checking both our phone number and post code on the availability checker the FTTP on Demand line several posters have pointed out is at 1000/220 but has been sat at this for over 3 months.

In July out of nowhere a generic email was sent to me telling that work to start providing fibre was about to get underway. This when a CBT was already placed on our pole in April and the coil of cable from it connected several weeks later. I filled out an enquiry on the OR website for fibre availability and got a vague response about work starting.

Are we doomed to be a few streets left abandoned on the roll out like I've seen mentioned in the forum pages. Or is it that left hand is not talking to the right and some database has been left not updated. Anyway i might go about finding out some extra info.

Thanks

FTTPoD 1000/220 could mean that the node serving your property is live, but the CBT that your property will be fed by (assuming the build is actually completed) isn't. For example, just down the road from me, a couple of properties within a postcode can order because the work has been completed, but the rest can't because their serving CBT is not connected back to the live fibre, just yet. The live properties show WBC FTTP 1000/220, the others show FTTPoD 1000/220. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but that's just the way it is, sometimes.

Given that you have quite recently had a CBT fitted on your local pole and cable has been connected, then in my opinion you’re on the home stretch, and wouldn’t say your doomed to missed out.

It just may be that some other civils works needs to happen. Give it a few more weeks and if absolutely nothing has changed, then take it up with the exec complaints team by emailing the Openreach CEO.

Could also be down to necessary cabinet work, our build completion was delayed because of this.

Openreach FTTP doesn't use cabinets at all. All the hardware is either on poles or underground, with the exception of a few ultra-rural areas where they have subtended headends.

(Many altnets do use their own cabinets though).

We had to wait for “cabinet” work to be completed…to be fair it was a rack in the exchange carrying the fibre tie cables wink

I thought that... No offence to OR, but I did wonder if it was BS!

Hmm, I bet that's what was holding it up in our case!

Hi thanks for all the replies. Sent another query off to fibre infrastructure and got a better response. Apparently there was an error in the records which they have now updated. The three outstanding streets now show as WBC FTTP 1000/220. Going to place an order and see what happens.

Thanks

Seems it was just a database error all along. Good luck with the order.
