G.network ONT details

G.network just became available in our neighborhood. Their website is shockingly lacking any detail whatsoever about their equipment. Does anyone know what ONT they’re using for their residential installs? From what little I can gather, it sounds like they used to use Huawei, but now install some sort of Nokia device.

I want to make sure I’ll be able to run it in bridge mode with no routing, no NAT, no firewall, and no WiFi. I just want an Ethernet port that serves up IP service to my edge router.

I think they use CGNAT by default.

Their website is bad and they don't really reply to emails either. The best bet is to phone them, as backwards as that sounds.

Nokia G2425G-B

The device has hidden menus. Accessed by logging-in through web interface (http://192.168.1.254) with:

This opens up a new Maintenance menu. With config options that should allow its use with certain ISPs, though not yet BT Openreach FTTP.

Probably wouldn’t be my first choice of hardware for that. Huawei pluggables are much easier to spoof the serial number and manu ID. Even easier than The Nokia-Alcatel pluggables…

Yup, this Nokia (G2425G-B) is a bit underspec'ed, too. Only 802.11ac WiFi. Plus the MIPS32 is showing its age. Those SFP, the Huawei MA5671A and the Alcatel G010S-P, are similar vintage - Lantiq Falcon PEF98035 single core MIPS 34K clocked at 400MHz.

The best of the bunch of supplied ONTs, measured in raw grunt, must be the Huawei HG8010XB. Powered by the Triductor VSPM350P, a 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor.

Assuming one were to buy their own ONT, would it just work or would they need somehow to authenticate it with gnetwork?

The ONT needs to pass authentication with the OLT before it can be allowed to participate on the PON. There are usually two auth strategies used, depending on the network.

No FTTP operators in the UK currently allow / openly permit you to BYOD to their party.
