I did have an idea, if I could mount the OR Modem to the wall (on it's side) and then run a CAT6 cable from it to a router, that could work.

That will be fine. But just FYI, CAT5e is all you need here. It works at 1G over up to 100m.

CAT6 is thicker, less flexible and harder to terminate. Over 100m it's still only 1G, but it can do 10G over shorter distances.

CAT6A is even thicker and harder to work with, but can do 10G over 100m.

Don't buy anything that claims to be CAT7 or CAT8. CAT7 isn't TIA/EIA recognized and requires non-standard connectors. Anything you come across that claims to be CAT8 at a reasonable price is probably fake.

Thanks candlerb I will look at CAT5e. May need to run it externally so that's a consideration. Cable Monkey seem to have some good options. Not sure how good they are.

I recommend looking at Kenable thats where i got my 300M of Cat 6A, one of the cheapest places and I have stuck to them for aiitonal kit since they were fast and reliable, one faceplate arrived dirty and the moment it arrived and I told them, they sent me a new one with next day deliveary and it arrived before 9AM.
It actually woke me up at 7:30 on a saturday.

Many Thanks,

So yes, the G.Fast specific front plate does have a ‘data only’ extension point on the rear of it.

I think the cat5 solution would be better in terms of keeping the signal to the modem as best is poss

Ah OK, thanks for confirming.

That's understandable. It's all work in progress for me for the moment, as I will have only just moved in. Long term goal is a couple of WiFi Access Points and a hidden router smile
