I am still in contract and I have said it before that I am, for another 8 months I think=, so i have to wait for at least 7 or so.
Have you considered enquiring how much it would be to buy yourself out of your Plusnet contract.

I completely disagree, 40 Mbps is not enough for myself for working at home. You may have noticed that the world changed a bit for office workers in 2020, and many people are required to work from home part of a week, or full time. Some of my colleagues have to download and upload very large images (e.g. virtual machines) and it is a very different requirement to those whom need to download a 300 GB game or patch once a week to a PS5/XBox etc. Please stop with the generalisations and buy and use what works for you.

Fair enough, for you then 40Mb/s may be a bit slow, but even for most people working at home, all they will download and upload is documents. For a friend, it files from adobe software or it was, she got around it by uploading the stuff to a cloud storage system and then the client downloading it from there, slow for her, but fast for them. Then she went for 4G and that improved it a little.

My sister-in-law works for a solicitor, and it is mainly word documents and QuickBooks files, I presume she still uses Quickbooks, so they are not large files normally. She can get Zzoom, but her email is linked with BT, I broke the link with ISP email services years ago, when I got my own domain.

But for the majority of people 40Mb/s is fine, the upload can be a problem for some. I presume my neighbour have gone for Zzoomm because there are four of them in the house, I saw them today, but not to speak too., well I saw their dog . It is a big dog

The world have certainly changed, for the worse, where we are being pushed even more to do things we don't want to do or use.

If you don’t like my posts, then don’t read them Adrian. It wasn’t a direct reply to you. It was actually reasonably supportive of your post.

Yeah, yeah. sorry, just in a strange mood and can't shake it off.

I know what happens with an installation and about the ONT. Just prefer people not to come here, unless i know them.

i read it was £15 a month, so over £100, as I said I am in no rush, no rush for anything to be honest. I don't even want to be living here by that time, I expect I will be, but I don't want to be.

I have seen you say this on a number of occasions but have missed where you provide the evidence to back that statement up. If you say 40Mbps is enough for you then fair enough but to say it as a blanket statement I would be interested to see the evidence as I wouldn't go back to 40Mbps even if you gave me it for free.

What do you do with your broadband? Most people will browse, maybe use some streaming services, and that is it. Ok, I should have said for most people on their own, 40Mb/s is ample, if there are a few people living in the house then yes 40Mb/s could be a bit of a limitation if they are all watching 4K, but the testy I did, proved that I could use 3 video streaming services, granted one was in HD and a had different stuff playing from all my Alexas, and it worked fine. It may have been on the limit and if i added more it may have failed, or I was able to put the third video stream to 4K. So yes, for a family, faster than 40Mb/s may be required.

The problem I have is this you need this because it is faster, and it is not just broadband, it is phones and computers. At the end of the day it is up to people, if they want to pay more for something they do not need then that is up to them, I know people who may make use of the faster speed.

If I had the choice of 40 Mb/s for free or paying for faster, I would go for 40Mb/s, if i can save £24 a month I will. To be honest, I would prefer not to have to pay for broadband at all, but these days it is required and now I use it for my video and music entertainment, plus the smart home stuff, it is needed now more than ever and yes I know that is my fault smile

I just feel like I am being pressurised all the time, not just for broadband but for other stuff as well, maybe it is just stuff getting to me, at the moment, with work and living in this city. i thought being off work for a week would help.

Oh well,

I know you don't use your broadband for work but millions out their do and I would 'suspect' that very few companies contribute towards the broadband costs of their employee's and considering a lot of companies now have a hot desking system in the office it has saved them a fair bit as they have been able to downside their offices. I know some may raise the point that the government during Covid gave a small tax rebate of around £60 for working from home but thats not the same thing.

I work for a "super large" consulting and IT corporate, and I also work alongside employees of our competitors. None of these companies contribute to home broadband costs. It is seen as something people have at home anyway, like gas, electricity and water. Its hard enough trying to get them to pay for IT accessories (monitor, keyboard) for home working!
