Be fibre Issues

[link to this post]

Hi all
Once again having not so great fun with Be Fibre, loss of service twice in 4 days, stuck with an ip address that when used with certain apps on all devices report use of a vpn and an inability to connect to my dual band network to get internet connection but get internet on 5g guest network.

Started off with occasional drop outs over wifi on my mobile, that seemed to be fixed, now can't use the network i've used since installation, but not drop outs since. The garbage router only hold logs for an hour so installed an app, netify on the mobile to record drop outs of wifi.

Any one else use Be Fibre?
What are your experiences like with them, I've simply had enough of them.

Cheers in advance

Lee

See if they are using CGNAT (common for pretty much all new ISPs due to IPv4 having run out). If they are, then ask support if they have any options, such as a static IP or a real public IP.

Judging by their complete lack of progress today, only to raise me to tier 3 for tech support.

"This issue has now been sent to the network operations team to investigate further as they need to investigate why the IP address you currently have is not suitable.

I understand that this is frustrating, however, we are working on this matter as quickly as we can and we will be back in contact once we have any further information. "

I will have to forward them the link about the cgnat, they don't sound overly clued up. They seem happy to be blaming my phone for the issue, yet everyone connected has the vpn problem on certain app, only my phone can connect to my network, but no internet connection, all since yesterdays' outage lol

Just checked the IP address I'm having problems with at ipaddress.com and it is registered to digital infrastructure (BeFibre)

Happy new year lol

*Don't* use ipaddress.com!

I've just gone there, and it told me my IP address was "255.148.222.105" - that is utterly impossible, it's in the class E reserved range. (It did however show my correct IPv6 address).

I suggest:
* ip4.me or ip6.me
* bgp.he.net (which tells you the netblock announcement your IP address is within)

It's possible they purchased the IP block from a VPN provider or one that originally registered them in a different country, and it's taking a while for the databases to catch up.

Took the bgp.he.net way, showed as digital infrastructure befibre but under Vem solutions llc from California, USA lol
Wonder if this is just connected to the outage yesterday and New Years eve morning, outage was electrical both times, with engineers supposedly fixing the issue between 0630 and 0800 this morning, is it possible to route traffic using another supplier ie Vem solutions? Normally if I get a "foreign " ip address amazon prime and netflix are first to give warnings not a phone game app.

What's the ASN?

If I look up Vem Solutions in RIPEs transfer database (https://www.ripe.net/manage-ips-and-asns/resource-transfers-and-mergers/transfer-statistics/within-ripe-ncc-service-region/ipv4-transfer-statistics) and pick a random block, like the one transferred to G.Network, some IP geolocation databases are reporting it as a French address, which I assume will cause problems until those databases update.

Vem Solutions seem like an IP address market.

Where do I find ASN?

Typed in the ip address in the link above says last modified back in 2020, needs to be updated I guess. Surely a basic part of housekeeping???? Getting more ip addresses, checking them or are we the guinea pigs? No complaints = they work, complaints = we get them updated and someone else has done the work for us lol

Try these sites:
ipchicken.com
ipquail.com
or ask a search engine "what is my ip address"

These will give you ONE answer, you might find you have an IPv4 and an IPv6 address. ALSO check the IPv4 address on your router. If it is the same, then no CGNAT, if it is different then CGNAT is much more likely to be in use.

Check IP block ownership at RIPE, or ARIN websites. Don't trust third parties.

At bgp.he.net, it says "Your ISP is ASxxxxx"

AS(N) = Autonomous System (Number)
