Re: Fibre installed, but the router is beyond basic

[re: highlander317] [link to this post]

First time poster here.

Just wanted to say that I got BeFibre installed a few weeks back and although the speeds have been fantastic, I agree that the router is dreadful. Mine just kept dropping throughput all the way down to kbps rather than mbps. Their support isn’t great to be honest, still not had my issue with their router resolved, so I resorted to using a UDM pro and it’s been perfect since then.

I was promised something from the main guy in support but he has forgotten all about it and fails to respond to emails now.
Strange how he got in contact 2 days after leaving a 1 star review on trustpilot, merely stating how bad the router is and lack of abilities enabled, and my review wasn't the first to mention how bad it was.

Did you get the adtran into bridge mode then plug udm into it or udm on its own?

Yeah I was told before ordering that the Adtran router could be put in bridge mode so I could use my own gear, but that didn’t turn out well. They apologised about the agent who mislead me but that was it. I’ve sent numerous emails on my current support ticket and it’s been 11 days since the last reply by support. So probably going to leave a negative review as it’s pretty bad not answering a support ticket that’s done testing and narrowed down the root cause of the issue being their router. Probably just don’t want to admit that their router is awful.

I took the transceiver module out of the adtran router and put it into a tplink media converter so that I could get access to a Ethernet port, then that goes into my UDM pro. However you can plug the sfp directly into an sfp card and that works too. Lastly you just have to set vlan tagging on the interface and then you should get a public ip and be off their equipment. This approach probably wont be needed for that long as they are going to be changing ont units soon that provide an ethernet port instead of sfp port.

Sadly their idea to solve the [censored] router is to add another router to it, the linksys ax4200.
Been promised the linksys in January but won't hold my breath.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust them, when I spoke to one of the guys, he said they expect them in March-April. I would honestly give them till January and if they dont keep their word, then just get a media converter and do the same as what i did. Its honestly night and day the quality of the connection with your own hardware. It's not even that hard to do, I was told it was impossible by their support to use your own gear and yet still managed it.

I'm sure there will be more people in this situation while they keep providing kit that is not up to the job.

Or for better reliability, get a router with an SFP or SFP+ port in it.

Hi buddy
I emailed BEfibre over the last 2 days, they have said the " new router" is a replacement for the Adtran and not an addon unit. They expect early 2023, so I will patiently wait and see when it happens.
Maybe they have listened???? Time will tell, but not too much time

Sounds like they are swapping it for an ONT, so you can connect your own router to it.

Hi Mate,

Yeah fingers crossed! Hopefully it will come on time and they don’t let it slip.

Still makes me wonder why they allowed such a poor router to be installed.

I just had BeFibre installed, got the [censored] Adtran router. I've bought a tp link media converter so I'm hoping it works for me like it did for you.
