Re: Fibre installed, but the router is beyond basic

Hi Smouty,

started off capturing packets with Wireshark this morning and no VLANs in sight. NIC is a Realtek which should show them. Saw the MAC address in the DHCP request and added this as Network Address in the driver settings of the Realtek and picked up an IP on the laptop.

So looks like BeFibre are now MAC locking the network.

Cheers

This is what I did when they told me they were giving me an external IP.
I can confirm this solution works fine

Thanks again for all the help and info; this is a learning curve for me!

I had asked BeFibre if I can use my own router directly or some other way and got the reply:

"Our network doesn't support the use of a 3rd party router as the DNS is locked to the device we provide.

However one workaround I personally use with my own mesh setup, is to configure the nodes as access points.

You can then log into the adtran router using 192.168.1.1 and disable the wireless from there so you would be using the nodes wireless functions while retaining the parent router as the adtran. "

That suggestion sound like a possibility for me but first I'll investigate a bit and see if I can make sense of WireShark

The MAC address of the ADTran was also on the box it came in. You'll need a router that supports mac spoofing, which luckily my Deco mesh does. I just plumbed in the MAC address and it picked up a WAN IP and internet working.

That's the sort of tip I like... "it is on the box!"

Thanks very much for all the advice, I'm sorted now!
