"I don't have the full picture to advise or comment upon what he says."

Just search his posts and you'll be informed accordingly.

And a very confusing picture emerges where facts are hard to come by.

It can't be that confusing as most of us know what Adrian's likes and dislikes are.

Well, you tell me, is his current ISP PlusNet or Virgin?
His FTTP options; an AltNet or something else?

It's Plusnet.

There's an option on the forum on whether or not to see people's signatures on the forum and the person you're responding to might have that set to 'no'.

Didn't know one could switch off the viewing of sigs. Can't think what the benefit of that would be.

There used to be some pretty long and annoying sigs for some posters, turning them off shortens the page length and could make it easier to read the content.

It could quite easily be out of date and probably is

If you are going to have to replace the existing overhead copper span to provide FTTP, why not use a hybrid cable … so if a copper based service is required again, for whatever reason, the leg work has been done already.

But they are not replacing the copper cable as it is still in place, all they have done is added another cable. so my next door neighbour now have two coper cables going to their house. i thought Openreach wanted to save money.

Seems to me that your internet usage is not so much different from most of us on TB with one exception of being hesitant in moving over to FTTP, which happens to be available to you right now.

As I understand it your current contract with PlusNet ends soon thus making you entirely free to explore the market place for a FTTP deal that makes you happy.

There is no doubt, you could shoehorn yourself into a FTTP service for a similar price currently paid for FTTC. You immediately get reliability and with little hassle can upgrade to higher connection speeds if, and when, the need arises.

So why the need to create lengthy threads on TB on this straightforward issue? It is not as if you are seeking help and advice from others on the installation process of how a particular problem can be overcome,

Plusnet ends at the end of next month, been with them for a few years now and apart from when there was a problem with the Openreach network it has been pretty reliable. Been on the go slow now and again, but I think that is down to saturation, something I doubt FTTP will solve. I did have a problem last week or was it the week before, but that was down to some config problem with the router. so most of the time it is reliable and works and sometimes it is better to stick with what works.

You say my internet use is about the same as other people here on TB, so why do these people on TB need super-duper high speeds for? I live on my own and two days of the week I am not even here and the place i go to have super duper speeds, but not so super duper for long, but still pretty fast

I did not creat lengthy threads, I just started them, it is other people that makes them lengthy
