ONT extension

[link to this post]

Does anybody have any experience using a fibre extension kit for their ONT?

Such as this linked below?

https://shop.premitel.uk/product/fibre-termination-p...

Going to be doing some decoration works soon and I wondered if it would be worth burying on of these in the wall. Just want to know if the are reliable?

You don't need one. A single mode fibre patch cable with SC/APC connectors both ends and an SC/APC fibre coupler will be fine. Coupler between the incoming Openreach cable and your patch cable.

If you want to hide the extension get an invisible cable from Ali Express and the coupler to go with it. Nothing super interesting about the kit all passive and little to go wrong.

Don't bury fibre cable in the wall, bury a conduit if you have to put something in.

Big enough to get a pre-terminated cable through?

A preterminated cable will go through a 20mm conduit with no issues, use the swept bends rather than elbows though

No doubt you want to move the ONT as you don't want it showing where it is, but you need to be careful with fibre, it is easy to damage, and what happens if something goes wrong at some point and Openreach have to come and sort it out? They not be happy that you moved the ONT.

Would it be easier just to have an Ethernet cable going from the ONT to your router?

Not really. Far more robust than people who've never handled it give it credit for. Nearly every issue is with the connectors.

That or when someone like me is trying to clear a tangled mess and pulls a little too hard and snaps it in two (luckily only multi mode running to a PC) as long as you don't do that its probably fine.

Many Thanks,
