Swish at last

[link to this post]

I've posted before about my troubles with Swish; it's nearly 3 years since I originally signed a preorder based on them rolling out fibre to our village.

Well a couple of weeks ago they contacted me saying they could finally install. One thing I wasn't expecting is the router supplied - I was under the impression they used Plume pods, well the supplied router/wifi is the LinkSys MX4200. Quite large but not unduly so.

The wifi speed according to my phone is around 760Mb/s down, 585 Mb/s up. But if I try on my PC attached to one of the Linksys LAN ports, I see around 920Mb/s down, but only 36Mb/s up.

I'm guessing this is an issue on my PC ethernet interface - device manager tells me there are two Intel I210 Gigabit network connections. Any idea what could be wrong?

Well it looks like whatever was slowing the upload from the PC has sorted itself out, now seeing ~675Mb/s upload speed. For download the tbbx1 is only about 420 but the multiple thread test is running around 920.

I’ve had Swish (now Cuckoo) for around 18 mths and it has been faultless. My BQM rarely shows any latency increases apart from a few small periods during the early hours where I assume there is some maintenance.

I’m using my own router though and always get 1gbit up and down.

I seem to be getting a reliable download of ~625Mb/s tbbx1, and 925Mb/s in httpx6 mode.
Upload is 650Mb/s

A bit of investigation shows that the upload speed is very dependent on the server you are uploading to. Switching servers (using the Ookla speed checker, which allows you to choose) showed upload speeds from ~470Mb/s to the Swish server, but 947 Mb/s to the University of Oxford server.

I've found getting consistent speed test results tricky.

From last night I got this with TBB
My Broadband Speed Test

With speedtest.net running via their app not a browser I got
1126Mb/s down, 1058Mb/s up

Both tests running via 2.5Gb ethernet with my router also connected via 2.5Gb ethernet to the ONT
