Connecting ethernet cable from ONT

[link to this post]

My ONT is in a bedroom and I have an ethernet cable that goes some distance (30m) to the router. I need to move the router to a better place for Wifi. Where the router is now there is another ethernet cable that goes to where the router could go (10m away). Can I connect this ethernet cable to the cable from the ONT using a gigabit switch? I can't think why not... but

I can't see why not, but would be cheaper and easier just to join the cables using something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-High-Speed-Ethernet-...

Just use an ethernet coupler, for simplicity.

As other have said, a straight forward back-to-back coupler.

Or, why not invest in another Access Point, leave the router where it is and use teh second cable to feed the AP.

Thanks for the answers, this is such a useful forum! Funnily enough I used one of those couplers a few years ago and it didn't work, so had discarded that.. I should have bought & tried another one, they're so cheap. I'll give one of those a try.

a decent coupler will work - unless you are coupling 50m to a 100m run 😂
