FTTP creeps nearer

The Openreach FTTP roll out to my estate is underway.

UG CBT’s have been placed, and a guy is splicing together the splitter node to take these various tails. He says there’s light from the ag node already. His estimate was a month before it would be live for ordering. Still lots of testing to be done.


Currently on a 330/50 g.Fast circuit, getting full whack. And awaiting the planets to align so our house buying chain resolves itself ….. so whether I get it fitted at this address, I really don’t know.

What would you lot do if faced with the same dilemma ?

I would think about minimum terms and not bother with an install, but keep any eye on what is happening to ensure your house gets the infrastructure. About 10 years ago, Virgin came down our street, but we knew we were moving. They stopped short of us, but I persuaded them to put the toby in. And then we moved.

If it was me and I was only a few weeks/months before moving I don't think I would bother getting FTTP installed, I agree that you should keep an eye on it to make sure the property isn't missed but I would keep the full whack G.Fast for the remaining time.

I expect you’re right. There is no FTTP available at the new address yet. VDSL looks a bit meh. Might have to go the Virgin route 😱😱

This place won’t get missed. Late 80’s estate, all nice ducted lead ins, ours is nice and clear to the closest JF2 … the CBT will be the next after that, and they have cleared a blockage between these two already.

As said in my other reply. The infrastructure is there … the feed to what will be ‘our’ CBT is further on the run … putting it in the middle of seven houses.

If you have a buyer, how about offering them the opportunity to order an FTTP service in their name to your address, with you generously facilitating the installation so they have connectivity from day 1? Even if they're paying for a service they aren't using for a couple of months it would be invaluable to someone compared with having to go two weeks without internet after moving in.

Definitely avoid this. During my first house sale, the prospective buyer started to get gas installed before completion. The first I knew was when the meter was delivered and gas board tried to arrange a date to fit it. Two days later the buyer split up with his girlfriend and the sale fell through.

My suggestion would be to get someone like IDNet to install full fibre on a monthly deal. You can add the costs to the price of the property and cancel when you complete the sale. Any other plans check with your solicitors first or you may end up with a nasty bill.

I advise you to stay on G.fast 330/50 if it full wrack and most reliable ever!
