I signed up with Orange on the 6th of March, got the same email sayinig it would be active over the next 10 working days but no date. Then yesterday the connection went dead (apparently, wasn't on the net at the time a housemate on the other machine was), I went to check outlook which I leave open and it checks email every minute and there was an email from Orange saying they had taken over........looking at the time of the email and the time my housemate said the line went dead, they don't give you much warning!! (around an hour I think)

I'm pleased with the speeds I'm getting (around 5.6mb, hopefully should get quicker over the next 10 days trial)but don't think Orange handle the migration very well. I only saw the email saying my broadband with Orange was ready because I leave Outlook express open. Had I not seen the email my connection would have gone and I would not have been aware Orange had taken over......I'm sure I would have figured it out eventually but would be better if Orange we're to give a bit more warning (i.e least 24 hours) as to when the migration happens.

So yes I'd say this is normal, keep an eye on your emails or if your line goes dead then that's probably the migration and time to plug in your livebox (have you got yours yet?) and get that all set up.

BTW I signed up on the 6th, migrated on the 16th so quicker than 10 (8) working days, guess it varies.

No livebox yet (when did yours arrive) seems odd that you get little to no warning that they've migrated you, but thanks for your reply its reassuring to know that all seems to be running as 'normal'

I think my livebox arrived Wednesday (8 days after I signed up) by parcelforce so they run these things close! I assume if they migrate you before you get your livebox you can still use the connection using your current router/adsl modem by altering the settings to your orange username and password.....but obviously you need the livebox to make use of the Voip calls.....they said talk should be active "about" 24 hours after plugging the phone into the livebox though I have my doubts it will be that quick, I'll find out later on this evening!

Hello

Great news, your phone line is now ready for up to 8 Meg broadband. Now you're up and running, we can now work on getting you the best speed your line can support.

The techie bit
You may have already got the Livebox we sent you. Follow the simple instructions on how to set it up and what to do next.

How to get the quickest speed
To make sure we can give you the fastest speed possible, we test it for the first ten days. The first time you go online, you'll need to stay on for 15 minutes so the testing can start. You may notice that your connection is intermittent for the first few days, don't worry, this is due to the testing and won't last long.

Don't forget, if you do get stuck you can call 150 on your mobile phone for free or 07973 100150 where lines are open 24/7. Call charges from other networks may vary.

Important info
Just as a reminder, here are your details to get online. You'll probably need them again so keep them safe:

Your username:

Your email address:

Your password:

And finally...

If you need any extra info just go to http://help.orange.co.uk or call 150 on your mobile phone for free or 07973 100150 where lines are open 24/ 7. Call charges from other networks may vary.

Hello
Great news, your Talk service is ready to go.

Important Info

Your new Talk phone number is and your voicemail PIN is .

Start saving money on calls
We want you to start saving money on calls as soon as possible, so follow these simple steps:
* unplug your Livebox for 15 minutes
* then plug it back in and connect a normal dial or touchtone phone into your Livebox
* the small phone shaped light on the top of your Livebox will come on to tell you that you're ready to make calls

Don't forget, to make cheaper calls with your Talk service, your Livebox needs to be plugged in, switched on and the phone shaped light needs to be lit, but your computer doesn't need to be switched on.

To check the cost of calls, including calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers, go to www.orange.co.uk/time/talk.htm then click on the 'What is Talk?' tab.

If you have a pay monthly contract with Orange mobile you can upgrade your service to make free calls to all Orange UK mobiles through your Livebox. To upgrade and start making calls you need to register by calling 0870 010 2462*. You'll need your Orange mobile account number and Orange Broadband details. For more information including Terms of Use visit www.orange.co.uk/terms.

The techie bit
Every now and then we'll need to update your Livebox to make sure you receive the best service possible. When we do, you'll see the lights on your Livebox flashing and you'll lose your Internet connection for 5 to 10 minutes. Don't turn your Livebox off. Once the lights stop flashing you'll be back online.

And finally ...

If there's anything else you need to know just give us a call on 0870 010 2462* any time of the day, seven days a week.

We're here to help.

I agree these things sort themselves out in time, but you've got to be on the ball just incase as things do go wrong.

My Voip Talk was activated yesterday, nearer 48 hours than 24 but well within the realms of acceptablitity. All seems to be working ok.

Line speed seems a good 5.3-5.8mb most times of the day, dropped to about 4 yesterday evening but expect that. Any idea in the 10 day trial how many times they will up the speed a notch? If it stays like it is I wont be unhappy but if I can get faster as I think I might beable to then all the better.

Hi cheers. Almost a week into the trial and I've not had any changes in speed up (or down thankfully), I don't mind if it stays at 6mb as it seems very solid and have not dropped the connection yet (other than manual rebooting the router for the VOIP and couple of times myself to see if it altered the speed at all), though was expecting something to happen in the trial! According to my router stats I'm synced at 8mb anyway so this 6mb I'm at now is probably the fastest I'll get? Though what does "attainable download rate" mean, it;s actually faster than 8mb? lol :

Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 9.6
Attenuation (dB) : 14.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 9440
ADSL status : Connected [0]

Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 8128 448
