Cannot access Orange web space ftp server

[link to this post]

Hello

I have recently migrated broadband provider from Freeserve (now Orange) to Be. My account is still active with Orange as I can still retrieve emails and log into the members page. I want to download everything I have on my web space using ftp but I cannot login (see error below). It appears that the ftp server only allows connections from the orange IP range. It does not let me access the login page on the site builder website either http://www.orange.co.uk/sitebuilder/ftp.htm

I realise that I should have downloaded everything before the service changed over. However, any suggestions on a workaround are much appreciated. I cannot use a friend

You can only connect via FTP, if you have a direct connection to Orange.

Looks like you will have to make a dial up connection, or find a friend who is connected to Orange BB.

I have been a Freeserve customer since 1997, and my webspace is at uploads.freeserve. I last accessed the files for an update under wanadoo using the dial up service and had no probs. The web pages are still there, but my ftp settings no longer work when I dial up.

Orange usefully provided a new telephone number, but that has made no difference. The help line offered their sitebuilder service, and I regeistered for that, clicked on modify my site, and it lists no pages uploaded - so this is clearly new webspace, not access to existing freeserve space. I have trewled their info and help, spent several 50p a minutes on their service line, all to no effect.

It looks like a service oversight by Orange, that all freeserve webspace has been "cutoff", but still exist. Anyway, it all seems a bit short sighted, as I've just given up and migrated - I guess others will too, but I still have my old, non-updated info still stuck in freeserve hyperspace, I can no longer access it to delete it or update it. Orange take note, your lack of servcie here is a surefire way to loose customers.

Anyone yet solved this, as the suggestion of being a Orange / freeserve registered customer does not give access to uploads.freeserve.

The Clayman

When I migrated from Zen internet a few weeks ago, my web space and log in abilty were all deleted and access denied, You surely dont expect Orange to let you access webspace after you have migrated away from them, and then try using another ISP providers connection?
.
FTP My Site

First of all make sure that you're using your Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve connection to the Internet before you try to connect to the server.

using an FTP transfer package.

Remember to name your Home page index.html so that your site opens automatically.

The Server address is: sitebuilder.wanadoo.co.uk

Do not place http:// in front.

Example login which consists of the email address you used to register for My Site followed by | (obtained by holding down shift and pressing the key) then the name of the site you created. In the password field type the password you used to register for My Site.

User name: [email protected]|shakespeare

Your connection to the server may be dropped if:

The single file upload size of 2mb is exceeded
The maximum number of concurrent users are connected to the FTP server at that time

Best of luck
Westy

No, there lies the point, my service is still active and I am a paying registered dial up customer they have inherited from Freeserve and then Wanadoo.

My login and email works fine, its only webspace access that has disappeared. The web files are all there and viewable at www.abaclays.fresserve.co.uk - but they are out of date.

When I say migrate, I have simply set everything up again in tiscali and changed my url forwarding from my domain ( www.abaclays.com) to point at another ISP, but actually I'm still a full registered customer of Orange, but I can only find ways of seeing orange, not existing freeserve, webspace. I'll try the wanadoo tip, and yes I am logging in though an orange connection.

Thanks for the comments, lets see if any of it helps.

I have emailed Orange support as there is nothing in their web help FAQs, and no help available from their dial up support.
