Just to further update my situation, I've just come out of one heck of an ordeal.
MESSAGE FOR THE DAY:
Anyone considering orange, try it, but only sign up to Orange Starter at first. That way if you're not happy in the first month you can quit. If all goes ok for you, excellent.
THE ORDEAL BEGINS:
I had already had one line check run by orange and it didn't find the cause of the problem. I was bascially told my connection was fine, I suggested they could come and see for themselves, surprise surprise no uptake on that offer!
I was transferred to customer care being informed that they would be able to cancel my service for me without fee....hoorah, I got someone who could converse freely in the English language...only problem, whilst he agreed that things were going nowhere with orange he couldn't do anything without specific authorization. He advised I call tech support and it shouldn't be too much of a problem getting this authorization.
Called tech support: sorry we can't provide that authorization without at least 3 line checks, but we'll run another for you if you like. I asked for a specific guarantee that they would indeed give me authorization for a waived cancellation fee after 3 tests:
"Yes, I will write a note saying that now" was the reply and they told me the test would be carried out right away...jolly good.
Next day: called only to be told no request was made for a line test. Rather unhappy I asked to speak to a supervisor. After much negotiation we finally agreed that he would give the authorization to me. I was subsequently transferred back to customer care.
BUT....customer care said no authorization was issued for the cancellation fee to be waived (....WHAT?!!!)....I was transferred BACK to the tech support guys. Again much negotiation, eventually got through to another supervisor who said authorization had indeed been given, but he assured me he'd write another report and transfer me back to customer care..
SECOND time round (1 hour 40minutes after first calling!) I was told again no authorization had been granted. Now was about the time steam was coming from my ears... In a calm, steady voice I informed them I'd already been through this. I was asked to hold, half an hour later I got another supervisor who finally agreed to give me a mac code and assure me I could get a full refund on the
