Smtp setup?

I am trying to send mail on my main account with Virgin media but using the Orange setting as they are now my ISP. It will only let me receive..

What do i need to do now? Settings?

I read you as meaning you are connecting with Orange as ISP and are trying to send mail on VM's SMTP. Orange, like most ISP's, block "foreign" port 25 SMTP outgoing.

You have 2 possible solutions :

1. Find out if VM have an alternative non port 25 SMTP and use that.
2. Just use Orange's SMTP instead of VM's. It's so easy and it works. Keep VM's POP3 server for receiving mail.

I tried the VM smtp but it didnt work.. will have to see if they have an alternative to the port 25.. i tried the other two that people mention in other threads but they dont work either.

I told you the VM normal SMTP won't work. Just use the Orange SMTP as I said.

What ere the other 2 VM ones you tried?

465 and 587 i also tried the smtp.orangehome.co.uk smtp too but no luck

With the 465 and 587 VM SMTP, did you tell it that "My outgoing server requires authentication" and supply your VM username & pwd? And also "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)?

The smtp.orangehome.co.uk SMTP should always work with "My outgoing server requires authentication" unchecked. EDIT: If it didn't work, what error msg did you get?

It pops up a box asking me my username and password.

I use the smtp.orangehome.co.uk as the smtp server, used BOTH 465 and 587 as the outgoing smtp figures and also use my VM username and password.

using 465 it says that it cant connect to the smtp server
using 587 pops up a box asking me for my username and password

ssl on or off makes no change to the above.
