[link to this post]

Has the DGN1000 supplied by orange got orange firmware or is it a stock netgear firmware?

Dunno but what does it say at top of Router Status page and how does it compare with what's on Netgear Support pages?

I am not on Orange, (yet) that's why I am asking the question.

Hi Mike, the Netgear DGN1000 wireless N150 router Orange supply has Netgear firmware, the router is NOT locked to Orange, you upgrade the firmware to Version 1.1.00.41 from the Netgear website.

http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1...

http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/wirelessroute...

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/networking-a...

Does anyone know if the router still belongs to Orange or does it become the customers property?

Thanks,

Good to know that Orange haven't messed with it.

I am always sceptical when ISPs stick their own fireware on and prevent flashing back to stock version as this limits the availability of firmware bug fixes etc.

My current DGN1000 N150 has firmware version 2.1.00.37_RG pre-installed and I've had this router since April this year.

The router is still Orange's property, we only 'rent/borrow' them and have to send them back if we leave or have another sent to us for whatever reason.

I have received this morning another DGN1000 router to see if it helps sort out my speed issues (doubtful it will but I'll try anything at mo). I've been sent a letter with the new one to say that if I don't send my original one back straight away, I'll be charged £50 for it.

Sounds specific to Orange; not a Netgear offering.

That's my thought too.

Having connected my new router, it has firmware version 2.1.00.39_RG pre-installed.

Scrap the above. I rang Orange CS as they didn't include a pre paid returns bag like they usually do. Cust Services have told me that the letter is wrong. They no longer request the Netgear DGN1000 routers back, but they do with other models (I presume the Liveboxes?)

Hi, thanks for info clarifying the Orange Netgear router ownership, it sounds great a FREE gift from Orange. I upgraded my Orange Netgear DGN1000 router April 2011 to firmware Version V1.1.00.41 and everything works okay. I would advise you do the same, it has many bug fixes and may improve your connection. wink

I note within the router under [Router Status] it now has
Router Firmware Version V1.1.00.41_ww
Modem ADSL Firmware Version 3.4.4.0.0.1
