It doesn't have to be 10Gbit because it's still GPON and maxes out at 2.4Gbps.

But it wont be 2.4Gbps in a few years. Virgin are rolling out XGS-PON right now, and Openreach will go with Combo PON to run both concurrently. So may as well have a 10gbit capable ONT.

edit - they already have some Nokia Combo cards in FTTP network

The ONT doesn't support XGS-PON. I suspect their XGS-PON ONTs have a 10Gb port.
