EE 500Mbps Offer (Edit)

[link to this post]

Am I missing something here?

EE is offering 500GB on a 2 year contract at a monthly price of £34 (subject to 2 increases of £3/month in Mar 25 and 26).

My present contract with A N other ISP is £45/month for 330GB. Their price for a similar package would be £55/month.

I am tempted.

Thats a good price and the fact you know how much its going to go up over the 24 month contract gives you the chance to budget. Now you're out of contract with Aquiss this is a good time to switch and maybe you could go back to Aquiss as a new customer after the 24 month contract with EE.

PS Check to see if you can get any cash from a cashback site.

I am guessing you mean 500Mbps and 330Mbps respectively. Note that Aquiss is £50/month for 500Mbps (it's £55 for 900Mbps)

Plusnet is currently doing 500Mbps for £34 per month too (cheaper than 300M at £36), also with price rises on Mar 31 every year.

If you're like me you'll barely notice the difference between 500M and 300M, so you have to weigh up the lower monthly price (£37 per month after the first price rise) against the longer contract, and whether there are any other features you care about like static IP.

Yes, you are correct. Put it down to old age and a glass of wine at lunchtime!

Looking at EE’s third-party router connection page, it appears to be standard save for the fact that there is no password or BT (or is my confused afternoon continuing?) My present connection has a bespoke password. I am not sure what the implications of this are in regard to security.

None whatsoever. They authenticate you based on your connection location (linked to your ONT ID) rather than a PPPoE username/password. Both are valid approaches.

Sounds about right -- Vodafone are offering 500Mb/s for £33 per month (plus their annual price increases).

Whilst I'm stuck with Virgin Media which I wish I had never of gone for, there is a another providor in my area called Toob which is offering 900Mbps for £29 pm. When I first looked at their products I think they were not quite near to my address in their roll out, but I believe they are now. They are even offering an amount of free broadband if you are stuck in contract with another providor, so you can sign up to them without having to pay two providors, starting your new contract when your old one ends.

I'm down in Hampshire, so I'm not sure if this company could help or not. Toob Broadband

No Toob in my area. Interestingly, I now see that both Zen and IDNety are offering 500mbps BB at £45pcm. Aquiss is sticking with £50pcm.

For new customers, Aquiss is still cheaper over Zen's 18 month contract period, because of the first 6 months being half price, and because Zen charges a £15 setup fee. (Although Zen does bundle a router. Aquiss is only a 12 month contract).

The crossover is at 33 months, when both providers will have charged exactly £1500, assuming no out-of-contract price rises. If you stick with them after that, then Zen is £5 per month cheaper.
