If ever a game is going to be in the bargin bin the day after its official release then its this one.
Try as i might to like something about this game is getting harder and harder the more i read about it and the more clips i see,Graphically it looks terrible even on ageing consoles.
This to me is the disaster that became Duke Nuke Em Forever and coming from the same developer then the writing on the wall.
If this gets half decent reviews from major sites then i will be amazed.......

It looks fine, most games on consoles look poor so its pretty hard to judge them on- espeically the multiplayer.
The game looks dark and scary which is what the films where about-also having to swap from your weapon to use the sensor is good as it forces people to make smart decisions and work together or you will die quickly.
If the setting/music and gameplay come together then it will be a good game, game is not out till the 12th so lets wait and see what the reviews say about the game, less then 2 weeks.

I am going to get it on PC I think rather than console. It's been ages since I played an Aliens game, I think the last one I played was the original AVP on the PC so I am hoping this one is alright but at least if I buy it on PC it will be cheaper than Xbox so if it is pants I haven't wasted so much cash
By the way I had to post this as it was a hilarious coincidence when I read your post T2D, look at the Google ad at the top

Most games on consoles don't look poor mate and this looks like a Playstation 1 game.

Yea just made me laugh you said it would be in the bargain bin and at the top of my screen they were offering 23% off

Game over Man,Game over
Personally Jaxx i would really like this game to be really good but i can not help writing negative things about it when i see the trailers.
Im not on my own in thinking it looks Pants !,go to many gaming sites and the comments in the forums regarding the trailers from the game will clarify what I'm saying.
If it turns out decent then that will be a bonus, but I'm predicting terrible review scores and its certainly not a game i would dream of pre/ordering based on what i have seen and heard .

I had a go at the Dust beta last night. What a load of .......

I know as i downloaded that about 3 months ago as a Plus subscriber, like you i could not see what the hell all the fuss was about regarding this game.
After trying for about 60 minutes to get into this game i decided it was not for me and deleted the file.

Directly the result of devs listening to whiny [censored] on irc. There was one point in the beta that the game looked like it was heading in the right direction but sadly the devs decided to listen to dumbarses that have no foresight. I was invited from the release but had no interest until they implemeted the use of keyboard and mouse on the ps3/game and told them so. When it was anounced that they had added this planned feature i jumped in both feet with glee, less than 5 weeks later they patched the game and broke the keyboard and mouse. A lot of the better pc gamers left at that point then the lunatics took over the asylum. The only redeeming factor could be that it's probably not going to given up on and will be worked on for a while exactly like Eve online. Time will tell.

Its out Tuesday and not one single review which you kind of know means this game is going to drop like a bag of spuds .
So watching THIS VIDEO I'm still not blown away, obviously the guy that is playing it pleases easily because he thinks it looks pretty amazing.
Personally i think it looks no better than the Atari Jaguar version from about 15 years ago.
But the reviews will tell the story in the next few days, and if for some reason the reviews are favourable [doubt it] then i may invest.............But thats a very BIG may.

Sorry mate, I'm still not with you on this one. It's Aliens!!
The graphics don't look too bad, in fact at times they look really nice. This clip is a little better without the slow coach narrator. They may not be cutting edge visuals, but the lighting and sound create the perfect atmosphere for this type of game. I like the look of the environment. I would normally complain about sc-fi type gun sounds not floating my boat, but the standard assault rifle sounds just like the one in the films as I remember it. Some of the voice acting comes across a little wooden, but I can already imagine with the volume turned up how the ambience (sound and lighting) could get the old adrenaline pumping!
Failing dreadful mechanical reviews, this could see me through to May and the Last of Us.

Well for the past hour I have been trawling the Internet trying to read and see as much as possible about this game,I have seen a few clips now that impress me a little more and I do get the urge to check the game out,but I feel that within 30 minutes I would be putting it to one side and discarding it to the trade in section.
I just watched another video and it was a lot better than the one I posted earlier,I will wait for the reviews to surface and its going to have to have solid 8s and above to get me to purchase,I put my neck on the line and say the likes of game trailers and ign are going to be giving this around a 6 .
Like you I want this to be a a fantastic game from a fantastic film franchise ,but I am just not seeing what you see mate,I do admit that my views change depending on what video and preview I read, but overall it don't have me very excited which is a shame given the name that this game trades on.

Clip looks nice mate I give you that, that's my point really, when I watch some clips they don't look very good but based on this clip the game appeals to me......confused.com It looks nice. Not great, but nice. If the reviews don't slate it mechanically or point out frame rate issues and pop ups, then I'm in.
If it does get multiple sixes in the early reviews I might hold off for a while. I don't usually plump for anything less than a 7.5 unless it gets highly recommended by friends, but if the atmosphere is pulled off correctly this is one of those games that doesn't need exceptional visuals.
Even with a 10 out of 10 for visuals, if the gameplay sucked I'd still give it a miss. Aliens is about atmosphere, if they get that right I think we'd all be happy?

Anyway check out this Ign Play through which is 2 hours of video of the game and tell me it dont look like a game from a decade ago Graphics wise.
When i see stuff like THIS
then i know its a Pass the duchy
Funny a sentence from the Aliens film springs to mind when i watch these clips........Game over Man Game over
Another Gearbox disaster that should have been put into the hands of the developers that made Metroid Prime........Retro Studios.
Seriously how could they release a game in this state after so many release date delays, certainly not been delayed for polish based on this video from Ign
So disappointed that they think that by using the Alien name they can release a game that looks like a playstation 1 game at best, yeah yeah Graphics are not everything, but when you see games that look as good as Uncharted,Bioshock,Dead Space,Far Cry to name just a few then there are no excuses.......Some developers have it and some don't and Gearbox based on this evidence its .......Guilty as charged and your developers license has been revoked ..........I wish.......

Quick look at that last video and there are aspects I like (visuals, setting and gun sound effects) but if this game is gonna be about the multiplayer aspect then I think it's gonna bomb badly, just because it looks ultra [censored] being a xenomorph, dying all the time as you seem pretty underpowered, then there being a long wait to spawn and do it all again. Just looks like desperation trying to inflict as much damage as possible before you're toast.
Might be some redeeming features to the game when people have time to play it properly. But what I saw (skipping through to bits and pieces), it doesn't look good.

When you watch mrnelster video the game don't look to bad, when you skip through the ign.com video the game looks god dam awful .
Now check how bad the Multiplayer Looks

Yeah, I just don't it. It does look pretty bad. Why are the aliens so, um, short?
Just not interested in multiplayer but as always i have the game on 30day return and will play the campaign as that's where this is hopefully at.
As for graphics , why and what are you expecting on this outdated hardware ,as i remember it ,nothing has impressed my graphically in the last couple of years , maybe longer .
should be in my letter box tomorrow ,if im honest im not expecting allot but for now im re watching the old Alien film to try and get that " messing my pants feeling " before i play the game .
It might be outdated hardware but you have to expect better than this mate, there are plenty of games out there on both the 360 and the playstation 3 that put the graphics in this game to shame.
This is AVP 2010 which absolutely anyalates Aliens Colonial Marines and thats a game thats nearly 3 years old.
Take a look at the graphics and feel of this game and you will kind of get the fact that people that love the Alien Franchise [I'm one of them] have been well and truly ripped of and duped by Gearbox Software that have not got the slightest idea how to make a decent game with decent tension, effects and decent graphics giving what is capable even on 6 year old consoles.
Borderlands was nothing special and the follow up was also just a ok game which got boring and tedious pretty quickly, but they just about pulled it of with this game because they used cartoon style graphics to mask there poor development skills.
I have yet to see a half decent game from Gearbox software and if someone can point me in the right direction then i will dead keen to take a look at what you think is a decent Gearbox game.
And THIS just about puts the nail in the coffin for Gearbox.....
According to this they did not even develop the single player part of the game and gave it to a smaller development company which is basically unheard of in this day and age.
And to add insult to injury Gearbox are actually responsible for the [censored] looking multiplayer part of the game that nobody after 10 minutes will bother with.
your instinct was right about this game, just finished first mission of campaign , the graphics are very poor but even more inexcusable is the feel of the game .
3 out of 10 there is so much possibility to make a great game its shocking a developer can get it so wrong .
I didn't want to say i told you so but i have been gaming for 35 years mate and everything about this game looked horrible and any Gamer could see this was a epic fail.
From the constant delays to the hiring of some third party developer to do the single player quest have alarm bells ringing, people will say its not about how good a game is and graphics are not everything.......I say no sir you are wrong especially when you have such a fantastic Film franchise that cries out for some top end developer to get hold of it and give it the quality it deserves.
Problem is with Film Franchise type games developers on the hole get lazy and think the name itself is enough to sell the game, that might be the case if you 15 or younger because seriously they would not know a decent game if it bite them in the backside.
I really hope this game finds itself in the bargain bin within a week or so and people refuse to except this sort of quality in 2013 when there are so many possibilities and no reason for games to look this bad.
Just came back from Blockbusters and the guy in there said they had not had one single person buy the game at present,Gearbox sort of put there development skills to the test when the idiot i was bought Duke Nuke em Forever thinking it can not be that bad can it......
Borderlands aside and a few half life mods they are in my opinion average at best developers.
and as expected here is
ign.com review
and its not pretty and the scores low but even higher than i expected.
Been duped before myself mate but i have wised up and now a game has to at least look different and have some graphical appeal for me to be slightly interested in 2013.
A game that uses the Alien Name has to have that certain quality,it has to look good and have amazing special effects and graphical flair.
Looking at this game its a insult to most gamers intelligence and only the most tolerate of gamers that expect very little would be remotely interested.
From the poor reviews coming in [not a surprise] to the forums awash with insults about the developers and the poor game and another wasted opportunity.
Vote with your wallet and let it rot on the shelf is what i say,to be honest for the life of me i have never understood what people actually saw in this game in the first place judging by the videos and preview builds.
The only thing remotely the same about this game and the Film is the sound of the pulse rifle and motion tracker, the aliens themselves look like something i could have created using this apple mac,and the effects when killing them look ever more dire...................
I really don't think its all about the graphics to many of us , yeah there an important part of the package but only one part of what makes a game good .my example is Minecraft which is hugely successful and has 16bit graphics .
This game stinks on all levels , if the game play was jumpy ,full of suspense with action packed battles and a compelling story , i could forgive the last gen graphics but as it is , i will complete campaign and post it back tomorrow . as i understand it , campaign can be completed in 5 hours .
So wanted this to be a good game but your bang on the money this time , the review embargo was the dead give away .
I understand what your saying about it not been all about graphics to some people but personally a game that has outstanding Graphics has me hooked pretty quick, obviously if the gameplay is poor then thats another story.
You mention Minecraft and i understand that many people love this game and its 16 bit graphics, but to me mate if this was Gaming i would go take up Golf or train spotting
likewise i never understand why i read so many psn and xbox forum posts about people wanting old playstation 1 games like Jumping Flash etc on the gaming stores.
These are the same people crying out for next generation consoles........Why ?
Why bother upgrading if you want to play games from 10/15 years ago........I just dont get it and why bother with advancement in the first place.
Its just another reason for developers and the likes of Sony and Microsoft to fill the stores with stuff from the past, same with the backward compatibility people want with the next generation consoles, another thing i don't get, obviously it needs to play recent Playstation 3 games but who cares about the rest.
I mean i put games on from a few years back when i thought they were pretty mind blowing at the time only to be looking at them now and thinking this don't look to clever.
Im a graphics [censored] mate and i think that it is of upmost important to draw a gamer in the minute you load that game, there is nothing like a fantastic intro to a new game and i really nice looking menu screen, with a brilliant sound track.
Its the same with music to me in a sort of way,i can listen to a piece of music or a group and know within seconds if i like it,same with gaming only it takes a little longer, may be a few minutes.
There are not many times i have dished a game based on previews and demos and then decided to try it some months later and decide it was really good and i had made a mistake.
Dead Space 3 had me worried ,even cancelled pre/order,but having had second thoughts i bought it and its everything i expected and more, the fear factor has gone a little but put it side by side with what you are unfortunately playing and you can class Dead Space 3 as a Masterpiece.
One redeeming thing you have in your favour is the fact you can return the game,i don't know about the cost to you for doing that, but the general public will have lost £15 within minutes of taking ownership of this pile of doggy pooh.
I pay £12.95 and get to play the game for 30 days or i can keep the game and pay the remainder . its how i have been buying my games the last three years . All titles come day of release or before .
in this case i have lost but in most cases im completely bored and have finished with the game with in the 30 days .
I just see it as hire before i buy and the 30days is enough time to go back and have another look at a game after being initial unhappy with a game .
you will be surprised how many times i have changed my opinion of a game on my second look . But not this game , no second look , as i have already wasted time playing it already , its that bad , in fact what was so bad about duke nukem ? Gearbox are now an avoided developer .
The only game gearbox have any decent credit for is Borderlands and personally i did not think this was that exciting but many gamers did.
Apparently as i have mentioned someone else took over or were handed the reigns of the single player and Gearflops took over Multiplayer.
Whatever the reason or the outcome i have read and seen enough about this game that makes me think that even if GearBox done the single player also it would have faired no better.
They are nowhere near a top developers studio and Publisher Sega are also doing themselves no favours and people like yourself and me and many many others will get wiser and become very weary of what they release in the future.
So each time you want a game you pay £12.95 and if you don't like it you post it back for return,if you do like it i guess you have to pay the final balance, judging by what we have seen so far this year [dead space 3 apart] you wont be having to pay to much.
So basically its cost you £12.95 for a late Christmas turkey
Edited by time2die (Tue 12-Feb-13 16:16:14)
Yeah £12.95 for a late Christmas turkey and i really don't like turkey and i especially don't like this type of turkey .
Think im done with the game , they're 11 missions and i have already done 3 in just over an hour and im not being energized by the game in any way .
Friend wants to try the game for them self , looks like their getting it early .

Borderlands and the sequal are very good games, though any studio that got lumbered with Duke Nuke em would suffer, the game should have never came out as their was too much expectation of it.
As for Aliens, their have been so many games over the years and its a franchise they will keep turning out games, this title having 4 different studios over 6 years if the claim is ment to be then its hard to blame gearbox entirely and the PC version sufferers less graphical problems then the consoles.
http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/02/12/how-much-of-al...
Ideally a aliens multiplayer game only would be good if it was done by a small studio funded via kickstater but FOX are very unlikely to release the ip.
The AvP titles done by Rebellion have been very good and profitable, shame the last one was not polished enough but thats down to funding and time.
Though any game based of a film will have a mountain to climb before its even released, its better when the ip is new or less known as theirs not so much expectation.

Its hard to say how much budget they were given but i know if it had gone to the right developer the game would have been a lot better than what we have.
You will be hard pressed finding many reviews that think this game is acceptable by todays standards,Rebellion are not exactly a top developer either as there sniper games prove,AVP 2010 was a masterclass compared to this and that was there game.
Developers such as Retro Studio [more than likely tied to Nintendo] or Dead Space developer Visceral Games would have made something pretty special and given the people who loved the films [me included] something to shout about.
I don't understand why the studio Fox give these licences to developers that are not gifted with great skills compared to others, either them or Sega who obviously bought the Film Rights.
Fact is nearly every Film turned into a game [goldeneye apart] don't turn out to clever and its about time someone did something about it.
I kid you not that they think the name of the film itself is enough for people to buy the game, review embargo until 11.00am bst time this morning gives you a clue.
Daft thing is they may have caught a few thousand people out but once word gets around the internet this game is heading for the nearest game bargain bins very quickly.
Not that i care about this game but this is another reason why next generation consoles are needed pretty soon when you see the XBOX V PC COMPARISON

Possibly but the deal for the rights was between FOX and Sega, a single developer would have been better on this game.
Rebellion have made the best aliens game so far, the 1999 title being the best so if the rights where to go to anyone it should be them and they have had great success with their games.
Doubtful Retro would even know what to do with it, Visceral could make something out of it though with Dead Space loosing the scary factor it would not be the best choice.
The licence was only for 2 games which Sega has published, the rights still belong to fox who seem more then happy enough to let the game be released in its current state.
Its very doubtful their will be many successful films to games as i mentioned in my other post, the bar is set to high and the game is only made to make more money for the film rights holders.
Well the gap has always been large and will continue to be until consoles are no longer around, have to wait and see if the companys will release this year.

You make some valid points ccxo and I'm glad you add your views and opinions in these gaming forums,i rant on about how this game has turned out and i just wish that i was praising games and not putting them down as much as i seem to be doing last year or so.
Many games just don't seem to cut the mustard and end up as average at best even though previews of the build tell us otherwise.
I just hope come march I'm not complaining about Bioshock Infinite and the other 3/4 games i have on order, the playstation exclusive the last of us has slipped in the release schedule once again until June, but i know this game will be top notch along with Watchdogs [favourite developer at present Ubisoft] and i think tomb raider will be a good game.
Not sold on the multiplayer of Crysis 3 after playing the beta, but then again i play this for the single player experience and the only online game i tend to enjoy more than anything is gears 3 horde mode.[awesome game] and i just hope the new developer People can fly [Bulletstorm] hit the mark when Gears 4 arrives in March.

Most games these days are shipped before they are finished, its rare to find games that do not have a day 1 patch, but its all down to how much money/time the developer has to polish the game.
A few games have recently been funded via kickstarter and have budget of a few $million, will be interesting to see how they turn out as its a small development studio supported by the community- the games are all PC titles.
If things all go well and the game does shift a large amount of units then we could see alot more games pitched to the community to see if they are worth funding (those that start and then fail to reach their targets- all money is refunded).
Bioshock series has so far been very well recieved and they are taking the time to polish off Infinite so things do look promising from IR.
Last of Us and Watchdogs not really seen too much of the games so far but i would not put too much on them.
Tomb Raider games are either hit or miss, its a pretty long series now with plenty of games.
Crysis is all about the SP and 3 is a return to what Crysis was, multiplayer is not bad but expect the same from 2.
Gears of War never really saw the excitement in this game but its one for the console market, its PC port flopped but Epic really need to go back to Unreal.
In reply to a post by ccxo: Last of Us and Watchdogs not really seen too much of the games so far but i would not put too much on them.
On the contrary, these two games are exactly the type we need if they do indeed turn out as polished as the previews have shown us, both with an interesting take on their genre.
And as far as a The Last of Us goes, I don't think over expectation will be an issue with Naughty Dog.
This to me is the disaster that became Duke Nuke Em Forever and coming from the same developer then the writing is on the wall. I never imagined the same developer could fail so spectacularly for the second time. This hopefully will be the death knell for them.
In the hands of Rockstar or Naughty Dog (to name just two) this game could and should have been epic. I'm starting to think Gearbox as a developer have made a name for themselves in terms of the lowest bidder, with firms such as SEGA getting exactly what they paid for.

Yeah, you're right. SEGA do have a bit of a track record for pulling stunts like this dross. Very poor customer relations. Hopefully people will be wise enough to have steered clear in the main. Gearbox are going to have to stop making so many turkeys for sure: Borderlands and Brothers in Arms series were much better examples of what they can do. Somebody got a big load of cash for this Aliens tie in though not the developer by the looks of things.

Lets just hope Crysis 3 next week lives up to higher expectations, saying that it does look very similar to crysis 2 and I'm not sold on the multiplayer beta i played but then again i buy these games for single player only basically.
I might get metal gear rising as well next week for a bit of gaming relief after the dross start to 2013 Game wise has been something of a let down so far.

It seems their is more to the development of Aliens Colonial Marines as a sega employee went on Reddit- it did get pulled but the conversation was saved.
His point was that gearbox used the funding for Aliens from Sega to help finance Borderlands which they then shipped and started on the sequal after the success of the first.
In this time they outsourced the devlopment of Aliens CM to the other studio, then got the game back and basically fixed the issues that would stop players completing the game.
So if this is true then the fault lies between Gearbox and Sega, the developer not focusing the time and resources correctly on the product and Sega for failing to address the game issues and fix it before release.
Could possibly see Sega sue Gearbox but it all depends if the above is truth or just rumour, have to wait and see how it develops but goes some way to explain the issues with the game.

Down to 26 quid already. I'm definitely going to pick if up when it drops below 20. It'll be worth that for Alien horde mode to be fair.
No It wont its a pile of junk mate and don't get tempted.
its not worth £4.99 nevermind £20.........If you want Horde mode then at present only one game shines and thats Gears 3 and the soon to be Gears 4.
But you haven't got a xbox 360........NAR NAR NA NAR NAH .........OOOUUSSSHHHHHH
It's worth more than that as a creepy coaster for me coco old man .....OUUUUUUSHH
Their are PC mods out that vastly improve the graphics, just a shame they cant improve the AI, given enough time they proably could fix the game.
Once it drops to a low enough price it will be worth a punt to spend a few hours smashing Aliens, in horde type mode or similar. A trip to the cinema is probably ten quid an hour and we'd happily risk that sort of money and end up being disappointed, so what the heck?

Yeah when i have finished at the pick en mix which normally costs about £17.99 per quarter........Hey girlfriend stick to the Flying Saucers and not the fudge and the Banana sweets.......
Think of the weight will ya
Then as i proceed to the hot dog checkout as i like a couple of those and a ten gallon drum of watered down coke and a super duper cartoon of sweet pop corn im nearing £50 with the admission .
And thats OAP rates

I'd go for hot dogs every time.
So would I if they weren't five quid a pop or the like. I remember when I visited the new Wembley Stadium for the first time. At nearly ten quid for cod and chips and five quid for a beer, I quickly realised how they planned to recoup their investment.

I was reading about how Australia is one of the few countries to be debt free with a booming economy. Now, it all makes sense of course! I do like cod and chips too though. Another yummy treat for those rare recreational activities that take you away from the telly... There's a Macky Dees near the stadium though mate, for next time. Just remember! And a Lidls too. Cheap sweets/treats.
