It's an enigma isn't it? You would think the opposite. Bare in mind mate that my only technical qualification is my suffering! But very few people even attempt to pass comment as it seems a deliberate lack of information is maintained by the developers in the mist part.
PC sever administrators as you probably know, can introduce compensation codes to try to remove host advantage. With a 7ms ping that will be applied to me with virtually every other player in the game. It is sometimes noticeable even on dedicated servers, but that's just online gaming. You will never completely remove that.
But on COD it has always been atrocious. Mercenary TDM is supposed to help by stopping players inviting people into their party with terrible lines. But that isn't much better because the matchmaking is so poor.
When I go to a mates house, he has four 42"'screens and we set up our playstations for LAN. Two of the players I can smash into oblivion with one hand tied behind my back, the other player is about the same level as me or maybe a tad better on his good days! When we go online all three out play me 10-1. They tell me that I am stood shooting at thin air and that the player is long gone. I tried kill confirmed last night. One game was reasonably good fun. The rest of the games were ridiculous. I would run over tags and not collect them. When I turned round there us a team mate behind me. The delay seeing him as getting their before me.
I would love for someone to tell me it was fixable but I dont think it is mate. And most of the players winning games, aren't. The mid table players are probably as good if not better. But ego's mean the status quo gets defended. I'm not the best player in the world, but on LAN I am between 2-3 K/D and 20-25% accurate. Online against the same players that drops to 0.5 and 7%.
I once posted a link previously that shows a debate on a guy with superb stats. He clocks an issue that he thinks might explain why he finds it so easy to kill players. What do the fellow members do? Accuse him of cheating. Better that than admit they might not be quite as good as they think they are. I can't find the link at the minute, but this one from JD_2020 from Treyarch is enlightening on their "that'll do" approach.
"Hey JD_2020, when I play Black Ops people are jerking and skiing around the map and when I shoot someone all the bullets go through them".
JD_2020 "What a lucky guy, you have the worst connection and therefore are at a huge advantage".
