TalkTalk advert

[link to this post]

The current TalkTalk advert talks of ‘average download speeds’ of 145 meg ????

I daresay it is legal ... but it seems to be being very economical with the truth.

g.fast or FTTP service using 160/30 product, so speed is about the same as all the others on same product

In the small print it will say something like 'In TalkTalk Fibre 150 & Future Fibre areas only' (ie g.fast and fttp) or similar. No different to Virgin ads saying they offer the fastest speeds nationwide but then the small print says 'selected areas only'.

The one I see when I google is "average speeds up to 145Mb/s" - so it is correct as on the top package they would be the average speeds but on the lower packages the average speeds would be lower as is specified when I follow the link to the actual packages page. In this case the use of "up to" is probably more reasonable than in many previous cases of its usage.

Just as legal and accurate as the BT ads that say average speed 150Mb for the exact same product tier.

BT it sounds like are advertising the 150Mbps product with the line average speeds of 145Mbps.

TalkTalk are advertising ALL of their fibre products saying "average speeds up to 145Mb/s". When following the link it then shows you 3 products and the top product states average speeds of 145Mb/s. Technically I believe the advert is correct.

You should be able to see it from this google. However, I haven't see the specific advert itself.

You don't normally save average and up to since an average is a single point, rather than a range.

The av. up to 145 Mbps in longer form seems to mean 'our fastest service has average speeds of 145 Mbps, but there are other products with slower average speeds'

On the link Google does have an info box listing the averages which it seems to have pulled from a community post.

So good a point it deserved saying twice wink

I can see where they are coming from, it is the usual awkward advertising but I understand what they are saying even if it isn't clear from the basic ad itself.
