Link speed down after new router installation

[link to this post]

Engineers came round to replace aging gigaclear router with new router and wall unit.
download speed was around 45 and downloading movies was around 4-5mbs.
Weirdly new broadband speed is up to around 80mbps while download speed downloading an movie
is 2mbs.
Unfortunately the engineers had no solution and no real explanation!

I am using several Tp- Link powerline adapters and house wiring is getting on - nothing beyond the
router has changed. The engineers changed signal from 27 down to 5 which apparantly is closer to
where it should be.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - The original issue was broadband kept dropping out, apparantly hence signal strength being reduced.
I would expect 8-10 mbs at 70-80 mbps
Thanks

Just had laptop next to gigaclear router. speed at 200mbps. no change at link speed. downloading movie around 2.5mbs.

Firstly, do testing on the router and not the powerline adaptors. Otherwise you don't know what's happening. Don't confuse issues. You mentioned laptop "next" to the router - was it connected to the router with an Ethernet cable? You also don't want to mix wi-fi issues here.

I'm a little bit unsure about the 45Mbps speeds as I didn't think Gigaclear did anything in that range?

What are you using to download and where are you downloading the movie from? Was this Gigaclear before and Gigaclear now?
It could be you now have IPv6 and somehow routing on that is slower due to a different route.

Laptop next to router, was connecting via WiFi.
The router is in cloakroom hence several Tp links round the house.
The router that was replaced one of gigaclear's first ones. When broadband first introduced.
Our plan was 50mbs and been like this since then. Initially speed was around 20mbs at tp links. I uprated tp links to later ones. I think they use mme that utilises 2 or more of the mains cables for better connectivity.
It worked better and got roughly 45mbs via wifi at those outputs.
For several years it occasionally dropped out. I've always presumed it was house wiring. Recently got worse.
Got engineers over, they replaced router with linksys router and wall unit.
Downloading using upto date pc, i5, 9th gen processor.
Websites like Netflix and amazon prime.
Gigaclear before and now!
Engineers says problem with house wiring and don't know about tp link adapters. They suggested getting lynksys pods for best results.
Thanks a lot
They also said these new speeds, 200mbs are more normal

People are trying to help you but it's not going to be possible until you have connected a device with a cable directly to the Gigaclear router.
