Internet disconnections

[link to this post]

Hi,

For about a year now my internet connection has been disconnecting randomly, usually at night. I have tried contacting BT who could not find a problem with my phone line and also contacted my ISP who did not find a problem aswell.

What happens is my BT Voyager 100's dsl light turns off then it starts reconnecting shortly after which causes the inernet connection to stop.

My ISP is Plusnet could it be their fault and they are not telling me?

Click HERE and scroll down until you find "BT Voyager 100", and follow the instructions.

Need to know line attenuation and noise margin figures to diagnose further.
You're on a fixed speed 2Mbps connection (not one of the 8Mbps 'MAX' connections), so you must have a pretty short 'phone line.

It's possible electrical or RF interference is causing the disconnections, but we need to see noise margin figures really. If that is the cause, it's often fixable (using fairly simple DIY methods), and is essential if you ever plan to upgrade to one of the "upto" 8Meg packages (as your modem will never hold up if it's already struggling on a fixed speed product).
